Since 1992, with the exception of stabilizing the stratospheric ozone layer, humanity has failed to make sufficient progress in generally solving these foreseen environmental challenges, and alarmingly, most of them are getting far worse (figure 1, file S1). Especially troubling is the current trajectory of potentially catastrophic climate change due to rising GHGs from burning fossil fuels (Hansen et al. 2013), deforestation (Keenan et al. 2015), and agricultural production— particularly from farming ruminants for meat consumption (Ripple et al. 2014). Moreover, we have unleashed a mass extinction event, the sixth in roughly 540 million years, wherein many current life forms could be annihilated or at least committed to extinction by the end of this century

What do you think that tweet aims to say and how it supports your effort in saying humans have nothing to do with climate change?

Are you finally agreeing? That post is saying that mankind by destroying vegetation is releasing that as Co2 into the atmosphere. Or are you that stupid to post something that counters your own moronic argument?

Scientists are corrupt liberals who are funded by the Soros and Greenpeace and other militant groups like PETA who want to destroy the oil industry that is already under siege and facing only trillions in profits instead of quadtrillion and will have therefore pay their workers less now. The people who know best about climate are our conservative hero's like Trump who are well educated on this issue from reading hearing about climate skeptic websites - whose webmasters are experts in using google and have been able to use the internet to find the best arguments from around the world - culling together opinions of people who where it snowed last night along with oil industry research which clearly has no conflict of interest in fighting against limiting carbon release to defeat these evil scientists who are really just nerds who were picked on in high school and want to take away SUV's from the cool jocks as revenge.

Serious question, what's wrong with climate change? The Sahara used to be a tropical rainforest during the copper and early bronze ages and it turning into the largest desert on the planet had nothing to do with humans. We also had the Medieval Warm Period which was a period of increased warming for almost 400 years that was not related to human activity. It was immediately followed by the Little Ice Age for almost 600 years, again not humans...

Bottom line, we don't have the right to the planet and the planet could care less if it's a rocky molten ball or a lush greenish blue dot.

Of course I'm not a monster but folks don't believe in planet wide change period. I've always said community based conservation and green development projects are more effective than convincing folks they want to fix a planet. Ask someone to fix their neighborhood, their community, their city, etc... and you will find most folks are all in. And guess what, if all communities did it, would help the planet overall wouldn't it.

Our civilization is built around our current climate; from our global logistic system that relies on coastal cities to our agricultural system. Would be very expensive to move that system. What if the US was no longer the bread basket for the world?

If I don't care about humanity in general why do you think I would care bout Americans or US? But on your point, civilizations have always been built around something and it/they eventually go away and they are replaced with something else. So our current civilization would be inadequate and be replaced by something else, what's the big deal.

Of course people like me believe in planetary climate cycles. The science however shows pretty clearly that the spike since the 1950's is not a normal cycle, and the rapid nature of it calls for rapid response. We created a massive change in an extremely short period of time, and the science is pretty clear about it. You don't have to say "whats wrong" with climate change to realize though to come to a conclusion that change is still necessary.

The problem is, as dmoney alluded to, we as a civilization are not prepared for it like we should be. Take the Arab Springs movement in Syria as a prime example. Over 1 Million people living in rural areas had to suddenly move to Damascus alone. Which set off a series of events that led to the Syrian civil war. It wasn't the only factor, but it was a pretty big underlying factor.

What happens here in the US if Miami gets leveled and half a million people are forced to move to Alabama or Kentucky?

Look at the cost of climate change already. How much is the government going to have to spend this year in hurricane relief as compared to normal years before 20 years ago? Look at Puerto Rico. Something like 30% of the island still is without power. We weren't ready for that storm, and wont be ready when more storms come sooner rather than later.

The most frustrating thing for folks like myself is that if even deniers saw options in their daily lives to choose green or eco friendly options they would choose that option. Even my racist right wing grandpa was thrilled when he was practically given solar panels for his homestead a few years ago that paid for themselves.

The other frustrating thing is that there is big business that the US can grab that, because of right wing denial only spurned by think tanks paid by fossil fuel companies (who are making the transition to clean energy over time, but started think tanks to slow down the need for them to change overnight), we as a country are going to lose out on.

We seized on the military industrial complex coming out of WW2. We should be seeing Climate change as another opportunity. Pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement was such a dumb move because part of that plan involved implementing plans to get 3rd world countries clean energy infrastructure. When the panel with China, Japan, France, and Germany get together to discuss plans for setting up a new grid in Zimbabwe, or wherever, do you think they are going to include any American companies to bid on these projects, or do you think its more likely that a Chinese or French company gets that bid? Even if you do not believe in climate change, the stupidity to essentially take American companies out of the running for future projects is incredibly dumb.

Have you ever been through a period where civilization has been uprooted? You may care then. Or whatever, since you take such a nihilist approach.

The bigger picture is, that other people care and will make decisions for you.

Of course i"ve never been through it but if it happens in happens. Worry about things at a planetary or cosmic scale are a waste of time imo. Focus on your home, your community, get more out of our short lives that way.

That's fine. Your opinion ultimately doesn't matter like this conversation. Like I said, decisions are being made for you.

I can walk and chew gum, so I can focus on multiple things spanning across multiple time periods.

I still can't believe this is an actual thread. To actually believe you don't think climate change or global warming is a real thing lol
