25 assists. Back to how he played as a Celtic. Game has passed him by? No siree. You put 4 shooter/scorers around Rondo and let him feed them. He made the game so simple for the Pels tonight and they ran away. Once again, here's another example. You don't put a guy like Rondo on the wing. He's not a scorer. He doesn't even want to score. Rondo is STILL a superior ball distributor and facilitator. He's simply healthy and they've put him back in the role he's supposed to play. And he lit it up. Enjoy
Give me a break. How often do the Pelicans play the Nets? How often will the other 4 starters shoot 39/66 and score 103 points by themselves? Rondo was exposed as soon as he left Boston and remains exposed. Try not to hurt yourself knee-jerking over one game. It's better to look at a body of work.
He might be an elite distributor and tomorrow someone might hurt his feelings and he'll sulk the next ten games.
Rondo is who Rondo is. I remember when the Mavs got mad at Rondo for getting cooked in the playoffs by Harden like it was his fault.
True. But this coach has figured out how to get the best out of him. Great chemistry coming together in New Orleans. Sure it's the Nets. But if they make the playoffs then Gentry deserves consideration for coach of the year for making it work with both Rondo and DeMarcus, two of the most temperamental players in the Association. You can act like this is a one off because it's the Nets. But I posted it for a reason. Because this is what happens when you give a great playmaker the ball and you surround him with scoring options. He doesn't have to shoot.shoot or score when he's as good a creator and distributor as Rondo is. The idea that your main ball distributor has to be able to shoot for the team to win is an extreme misnomer. It's just not true. For a team to win a championship it has to have a primary distributor that doesn't turn the ball over very much and can create open looks for others and deliver them the basketball in rhythm when they're coming open.
Definitely an impressive game. It could be a bounce back, good thing we've got the rest of the season to see if it holds up.
This might be true. But you are basing it on... what exactly? A game in December where the Pelicans beat the Nets? Looking at the last several champions, all of them have had elite distributors that could also score. Looking at this year's contenders (GSW with Curry, Boston with Kyrie, Cleveland with Lebron and possibly Thomas (depending how he is integrated when he comes back), Houston with Paul and Harden)- all of them have elite distributors that can also score. Who are some of the main ball distributors in today's game who can't shoot or score? Rondo? The Pelicans definitely aren't winning a championship this year or anytime soon. Rubio? Utah isn't winning anytime soon. People hope that Ball will become that? The Lakers aren't winning anytime soon. Did I miss anyone? Is there another elite distributor/non scorer on some other middling team?
You guys just don't like certain players lol. I've always respected Rondo for the type of player he is. Had any of the foreign players you guys obsess over made 25 assist, he'd be the next coming of Magic. Much respect to Rondo
Rondo is great in certain roles and with specific players around him. I'm far happier with our HOF PG acquisition.
Put James Harden on any of those teams and they ain't winning a championship either. Just because Ball, Rondo, and Rubio aren't winning a championship this year doesn't mean they can't win a championship. Rondo has already proven that even though some of you think his championship team couldn't win today. Chris Paul will wind up being the #1 playmaker on this current team (he already is) because he is the superior passer and creator to Harden. He'll give us 16-18 ppg because he can shoot. But his shooting isn't what's critical for our team to win. It's his facilitation and the wide-ipen great looks he manufactures for Harden and the rest of the guys that makes the difference. You think Paul couldn't create the great looks he creates if he could not or did not shoot? Then you believe his creation is based on his shooting. That's because you've been watching Harden, Curry, Westbrook. Wade, etc. so much that you've forgotten the power of a great playmaking distributor. Chris Paul is so effective as a playmaking distributor that he could take zero shots on this team and the only thing that would change would be his assists would bulge like Rondo did last night. A great defensive playmaking distributor does not need to shoot the ball to be able to run a highly efficient offense. All he needs is to have four guys around him that can score the ball when he lays in to them when they are in scoring position.
You are delusional if you don't understand how CP3's ability to score greatly enhances his playmaking. It's what makes him such a devastating closer. Guys like Rondo and Rubio could never dream of that. A PG not being able to score requires a nearly perfect set of teammates to overcome the liability (which you subtly admit). The bottom line in today's NBA is a team's creator must be gifted offensively or they won't win a championship. This reminds me years ago of when you remained fixated on how important a post game was in the NBA after the league had already moved on. The Lakers had "3 of the top 10" post players in the NBA and were a cinch to beat the Thunder in the playoffs because they had no post game. OKC then proceeded to run them over 4-1. You seem to be a step slow adjusting to NBA realities. This is just another example. I respect you for going out on the limb but your point remains dead wrong.
The problem is that we've already seen this movie. Teams will start sagging off of Rondo, inviting him to shoot jumpers and closing down the passing lanes. That's when Rondo becomes a liability on offense.
i like cf the best when bbholic is on fire...many cf hate his takes but his writing and character is inspiring insightfull and fun...his thinking original...bbholic bro you are unbelievable!
