I don’t really blame Morey for it. This team was built very quickly. The Rockets don’t need the same depth G.S. has, but they need either another rotation player soaking up 25 minutes a game or two rotation pieces. As for D’Antoni, I would prefer he expanded his rotation but I can understand his sentiment that the bottom of the roster isn’t good enough. The fact is we have 5-6 dead roster spots is bad. Honestly we lost to OKC and the Clippers and Lakers because our bench was destroyed. The top of our bench is very good..... but we need more.
If they are in a position where moving/releasing Bobby Brown makes them better; they will do it. Right now they have multiple roster spots being wasted. Most likely they deal Black, Williams or Qi with draft considerations in any deal they make at the deadline. We are not far off the apron. Ideal situation is we get a buyout rotation player and deal for an upgrade at a low salary. That gives us an 11 man rotation. The key is they need to be players D’Antoni is willing to play 15-20 minutes a night.
I posted this in the RGV forum a while back, but Briante's shot chart with RGV could tell you something :
You realize what Bobby Brown shoots from 3, don't you? Damn right, it's descent. Can't descend much further.
Taking up space? Did you watch the game? He played pretty solid defense, forced a steal & had a nice assist to Anderson. But you wouldn't see that if you didn't watch the game
Most team development happens at the back of the bench & can’t be bought. I am not upset, but we traded or cut all of our youth last season & start of the this season. We need time to grow a new group. The role is a must. Weber or Taylor doesn’t really matter it’s the role not player that is missing. Said player will have to step up quickly or he will be gone. Weber is the G league stud most wanted signed but he is on a timer to fit in. Like stated by others it is on coach to find time for the development of this role. Injuries are starting to show some short comings.
If there's a chance to make the team better they will do it like Nook said, last summer in fact they did cut Bobby when they reached a deal with D.Mo.
FWIW, the guys from the Dunc’d On podcast also like Weber(although they admit he isn’t there yet) and they are definitely more on the Xs & Os/scouting reports types of basketball fans - in other words, someone who knows the game on a deeper level..
Except Bev isn't terrified of shooting the ball. If he was, Bev would still be playing in Europe. Players 6 foot tall with no playmaking skills or shooting ability don't play in the NBA. Regardless of how hard they play.
Does not take Corner 3s. 2s and Layups. While 42. 9 is alright in the Dleague, he aint shooting that against NBA competition.
Stupid question, but does he run the point, for RGV? Is the system similar to D'Antoni's? I can see why Weber doesn't shoot from the corner, if he's the primary ballhandler; Harden doesn't shoot many corner 3's either.
One is in the long term plan, the other is gone when we find someone better. There is no point talking about a marginal player who happened to play because we are way shorthanded. He is a defensive player first and foremost, I get that.
What? I don't think you read my post right. I'm just wondering why Weber's "corner 3pt" is so low (0/1). Is it because he's the PG in an MDA-system (who don't migrate to the corner, often) down in the RGV, or is he just not a good corner 3 guy? He's seen a lot of time on the floor now - marginal or not, and due to injury or not, why wouldn't we talk about a guy in the rotation? Dude could either be a bad player, or turn out to be the next PatBev. I think that deserves a conversation.
Everyone here is saying he was this big net negative, yet his +\- ended up at +1. And that was with him guarding Westbrook for a stretch.
