The fault was with the scorer assigning a foul on someone else to Shaq, who was later fouled out in the game with his "6th" foul with less than 1min left in the game.

In this case the fault was with the ref assigning a foul on someone, who would have been fouled out if properly assigned, to someone else with 3min left in the game The ref clearly knew who was fouled, but made the mistake of assigning it to a different player.

The main difference is who made the mistake, the ref vs the scorer. The end result is similar. The error is the same. The timing is similar.

Seems if the NBA doesn't grant a replay, they are saying ref making this mistake is ok, but scorer making this mistake is not, which plays right into the message that NBA and NBA ref doesn't hold itself serious about making right critical calls.

    Agreed.

This is the NBA needing to correct itself.

This is a great take. The Rockets are going to have plenty of games where they win when they shouldn't have because of sub-par play per our expectations. That doesn't mean they should be screwed out of that W because of a refs mistake, especially when 1-2 games could be the difference between the 1 & 2 seed.

    well said.

You do make the case for why a redo probably won't happen. Maybe they will strike a difference between scorers table error vs ref error.

I was mainly objecting to calling it a "judgement error" that happens all the time. I believe it's beyond a "judgement call" incident enough that it won't be a unanimously simple rejection based upon "judgment mistakes happen all the time." Just want to add that when the wrong player is given a foul (per your quote above), it's because two were in the vicinity, which I'd agree, makes it a judgment call that they don't review. Like if they gave it to Dekker, instead, since he was primary defender on Harden via a switch. This is different. Assigning it to Lou was a technical error.

Even JVG made the remark on the telecast that that error is different than a judgement call mistake.

Sucks MDA and the bench didn't notice in time while Harden was shooting his free throws. Refs are known to correct mistakes during dead ball, when coaches point it out.

this was another big mistake by rockets again...not knowing earlier that it was evans 6th and he was giving them so much trouble...i am sure refs would have changed it if rockets objected timely

...orrrr the refs could hand out technicals like christmas gifts, because of all the objecting.

There's really no way to win against the refs.

Feigen link shows the game would be Rockets down by 3 if it were to be replayed. 114-111? The free throws counted regardless of who fouled JH.

I don't see any player being eligible (cp3) if they didn't play in the original game.

they never give the technical when you remind them or explain in a nice way... i saw many calls reversed when immediate objection is raised...but rockets were in their heads not paying attention

What prize do we win by doing nothing? No one is going to magically start respecting us. The replay is in the rules and has happened before with the same ref involved with Donaghy. None of this is out of left field and the Rockets are called whiners now. If you never hold someone accountable you embolden them to keep screwing you. We had two horribly one-sided ref games in a row and the players know what's up. I expect several a season but when it is flagrant you have to keep them honest. Did the shorthanded Rockets suck in both games, absolutely. Does that mean that it is alright for the refs to ignore Harden getting hit every time he has the ball, NO. I don't care how many free throws he shot that's a stupid argument. The Clips had a strategy that they could not be called every time and that he would not get continuation and they were right.

This also goes to the Rockets identity this season. You fight for every game, you don't take nights off. The excuses you made above are the same excuses the players internalize and let it affect their game going forward and they lose 5 out of 10 in a rut. Accountability/responsibility is an organizational culture. Teams that have 14 game winning streaks aren't alright with losing or they don't have new ones. It is a lot easier to hold players accountable.

Can the Rockets replay the last 3 minutes against OKC, too? That was awful basketball.
