Correct: Offering the Max is second on my list that you quoted. The Max (with full raises) is the "ridiculous salary" to which you refer. right?

but imo: that isn't really what cyberx was suggesting. Someone offering the Max with max 4% raises is something many here have been talking about all year.

I would take DJ with a buyout, but I hope Joe Johnson will sign withe Rockets after a buyout. That seems a remote possibility in my opinion.

I told him it’s looking good. He’s worried about the Warriors and why wouldn’t he be... I told him that I thought the Warriors were a better TEAM without Durant... I feel Durant takes away too much of what Klay brings which is better for that team (another story for another day). I told him Ive been a Rockets fan since 4 years old and I live in LA now. He said he was not familiar with most of SoCal... he’s predominantly been to Staples Center and LAX. I told him LA is oversold. My 3 year old son was with us so he chatted with him a bit too. Just a super nice guy.

He also said he thinks it works so well because Chris and James get along so well.

    1) Capela is having and going to have a better season than Jordan. He is the better player if we only look at this season. Plus he is much younger, will be in his prime for the next 5 years at least. Jordan is going to be worthless in 2 years, although he continues to make a good impact on the floor for the time being.

    2) Can a two man rotation of these two guys be equivalent to having a 3rd star? This team is at its best when it has an excellent rim runner and 3 excellent shooters surrounding an elite pick n roll maestro. What happens if we can manage to have that on the floor for 48 minutes? Our defense should get better too, depending on who we would lose to get him.

A Faux Third Star is an idea worth considering. Would cost about $40m combined per season and they would have to be ok with playing only around 24 minutes a game each.

DJ's ft problems are hugely diminished if he's coming off the bench to play alongside Chris Paul and Eric Gordon and sometimes James Harden against second units lol. Beautiful.

Now if you want to hold him to his word on the discount, the best thing he could do for us is allow us to do a declining contract with maximum increments. If we sign him for 21m/17m/14m in the first 3 years and assume that in the 4th year he should make about $12m (50% guaranteed) which averages out to about $16m per season. That's not a bad deal for an aging Jordan. But is that a discount he's willing to accept? My thought is, I'm not sure he's getting offered more than $80m total guaranteed this summer so he might consider being at home and paying less taxes to be worth it.

    Actually,
The best way to do DJ'S contract is like Dirk. @cyberx says he wants to come home and is willing to take less. Here's how to do it. Get him to accept 4/80 (hypothetical number just for illustration.) Pay him 5,35,5,35 through a series of 4 one year contracts.

You acquire him with Bird rights. He opts out. You sign him for $5 million and reclaim your cap space. Next season, small cap hold, after you make your moves sign him to a one year max deal. The next season he signs a small $5 million one year deal and you have cap space again.

Better yet, get him to agree to 4/75 and redo scenario with minimum salaries in yr 1 and 3.

DJ, motivated to play for the home team, would be an ideal candidate to give this team the cap flexibility to beat the Warriors at the cap game and luxury tax/repeater luxury tax.

Before you say this is crazy and will never happen, let me remind you the stakes here. And then let me tell you this. Morey has been putting Paul and Harden through school on the salary cap, luxury taxes, and repeater luxury taxes. Paul and Harden know the stakes. They know all the possible nuances. And they are working it.

Guys this is about being a super team. It's about the banana boat crew. It's about the players forcing the owners to modify the next CBA so that there can be one super super max contract on every team.

Paul knows and understands the CBA. And he's talking to DJ. DJ is sending signals here. For the money CC is going to make versus the cap flexibility we could have with DJ, that will already be agreed to if he is traded here, plus the opportunity to move Anderson out.....it's a no-brainer.
