Am I the only one that can't take child actors seriously? I know it was pretty much inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, but bad child acting takes me out the immersion / makes me cringe so so fast.

i'm surprised there ended being so much hate for this movie. this was a really good movie in my opinion.

however i blame space leia for the hate. i believe that scene is the root of all of the suckage. it truly is THE worst cinematic scene ever, especially in relations to big movies and pop culture.

are you saying you hate movies with any child in the main role? or that bad child actors ruin movies? you can't deny haley noel osment made movies better. he or any of the harry potter kids would have made phantom menace much better.

he would be too tense of a child actor to be baby vader, remembering that this is a kids movie. kids are not ready.

Was very mixed about this movie.

It had some of the best scenes of any Star Wars movie with the throne room fight.
Wish the Saber had only injured Snoke and Rey and Kylo had to finish him off together while
    fighting off the Red guards.
I thought even the starfighter scenes looked great.
Good fight with Finn and Phasma though the end was a little cheesy.
I like that Rey came from no one as the force is not hereditary.

Lots and lots of goofy unnecessary parts like the whole Casino scene, Maz,
The horses, and Leia's silly scene.

Would have liked to have seen Luke fighting Kylo and 50 storm troopers in a fight
to the death. Go out like a warrior. Losing not because his power of the force was
less than Ren, but through the trickery of the dark side having an army fighting him too.

Felt the same about the Emperor/Yoda fight in Revenge of the Sith. The patience of a master
like Yoda and Luke should be able to win, but the trickery allows them to have dozens of stormtroopers
    while fighting the Emperor/Ren.

Could have been one the greatest deaths ever crushing Imperial walkers, storm troopers and Ren
and finally knowing the Rebels were away, allowing Luke to sacrifice himself to the force.

Not some death letting go like a puff of smoke after a mental (fake battle) was too much for him.

    Wasted, wasted opportunities.

i do wonder, wouldn't a great sith lord like rylo ken who is attuned to the force be able to sense that the hologram isn't really luke? usually they can sense someone's presence. rylo should be like "well that's weird. i can see him, but i can't sense him."

Forgot about that. Finn is a Rookie and Phasma is the best, yet Finn takes her down? So Stupid. (And if you want to see the actress that plays Phasma show her weaponry chops go watch Game of Thrones. This was lost on child-boy Rian)

Rian should never be allowed near this stuff again.

We just saw Last Jedi and Justice League back to back. Enjoyed Justice League a lot more. Did not expect that. Justice League was a tight 2 hours but Jedi seemed to draaaaaaagg. Did not mind the Luke resolution. He went out on his own terms which was cool. Don't worry fanboys he's not gone forever. Didn't care about Rose. Sorry, I tried.
The highs were higher than TFA just but not enough of them. Also neckbeards need to get over the kids at the end. Its not about you.
Justice League. What a surprise! It's amazing what the presence of humor and levity can do to a movie. Also beer, which might explain my reaction.

You assume that cinemascore only surveys audiences on opening night, rather than the whole weekend. Plus, I'd imagine that the fanboys had the most problems with it; why would they rate it positively? Because of opening night buzz? Seriously?! It's been proven that the rotten tomatoes score has been artificially lowered, but your argument lacks any evidence. Honestly I'd venture to say it's a bit of both though.

Your opinion that it's a bad movie. That's all. What would have been lazy is giving fans exactly what they wanted, rather than dare to try something different. Now what's ridiculous is saying this new cast is forgettable. Ren and Rey hold their own against any of the original characters. Course it's hard to compare to 40 year old icons of science fiction in the first place, and maybe thats the problem. Bury the past, as the film suggests.

You see what you want to see, that Luke succumbs to exhaustion. I saw Luke finding peace within himself and giving himself up to the force. You see "nevermind," but I see Rey realizing the path is hers alone, that anyone can be a Jedi, that the universe doesn't revolve around one family.

Go on and hate it though. I love me some Star Wars and would rather choose to try and embrace the film.

This goes to show there will never be a better star wars movie that isn't part of the OG trilogy.

People instantly turn into neckbeards and find pointy elbows when it comes to new films. It happened a few months after the prequels and now it's happening with Force Awakens. We get it folks, you guys are cool for holding the OG films in such high regard.

Didn't watch any trailers, kept myself away from any and all spoilers, and had just re-watched the OT and TFA before seeing this and...

What a letdown. A lot of posters have already echoed the same dissatisfaction. Had some SW elements but didn't feel like a SW movie. ROTJ left all the original characters on a positive note only for them to be castrated in the new trilogy. Totally ruined Luke and I see why Hamill hated the script.

Also, how do you go from destroying Star Killer Base the day before and the next day the First Order defeats the entire Republic? WTF? The stupid end scene with the kid? Luke just tossing the OG saber over his shoulder? Mary Poppins?! Eff Rian Johnson. Although this one had better action pieces, there are glaring plot holes, and I found the pacing of TFA better while also setting up bigger expectations. Maybe JJ can salvage the last movie.
