brent barry and jared dudley (not technically a "former" player, but he's been featured many times as an analyst)
I was actually thinking about this watching Sean Elliot in a Spurs game thinking he's likeable but I think you're talking about guys that give viewers meat and potato stats and analysis which many players who are analysts don't. I liked Mike Smith who did the Clips broadcast for years with Lawler but was replaced with Bruce Bowen who admits he's learning so I have no idea why Smith was replaced. The Rox Bull I also think is a good analyst combining likeability with insight.
Romo has been great. Really informative. Jared Dudley is great and will likelay have his own podcast when he retires. Otherwise, Brent Barry is good along with some nbatv guys
Calvin Murphy was entertaining. I personally like Bill Walton when I am in the right mood and he feels like actually talking basketball. Tony Romo is pretty damn good. Larry Dierker was really good at mixing the perspective of a pro athlete with advanced stats and psychology. Sean Elliott is bad in the same way Clyde Drexler is bad. Both were smart players and generally liked but offer no substance in the booth. Walt Frazier is solid. Not as deep in breaking down players as I prefer but he is good overall.
Jalen Rose is good from a players perspective on how players react to everything....and decent takes on plays.
Yep, two brothers at the two ends of the spectrum. Weird. I kind of like Bill Walton. He's a mixture of over the top hilarity and substantive analysis.
Romo is hands down one of the greats. It’s amazing just how calm and effective he is as an announcer.
as just a talker, dominique is the most eloquent ex-baller analyst there will ever be. sam mitchell probably comes 2nd there. on content alone, not sure and would have think about that. otherwise i do like walt and calvin overall
Agreed. First time watching Jon Barry: “oh, he’s kinda funny, I guess.” Second time watching Jon Barry: “Shut the f*** up.” C-Webb is great. I wish TNT would dump Shaq and replace him with Webber full time.
