This is not really how a business is going to look at things. You're right that teams want to keep within budgets and will likely not spend future cash on current contracts (aka, they don't have cash lying around and don't want to borrow from the future to pay the present). But that does not apply in the opposite direction. If a team books an extra $10MM in profits this year, that IS actual real cash lying around that can be spent in future years. Whether they will or not, who knows. But from a business perspective, if you're wanting to keep core guys in the future and wondering where you'll get the money, it's a lot easier if you booked real profits already that you can spend.
“As reported, I was in a meeting with people from the Cubs. It really went extremely well. To get used to English I didn't have an interpreter. At first I had some difficulties with words, but then did well. The meeting lasted for three and a half hours."
Guys guys calm down. We won the WS. We're set up very well for the next 3-4 seasons at least. There is no reason for Luhnow to do anything drastic. The team as is is good enough to repeat. If there are any holes then they will be addressed at the trade deadline. Otherwise Luhnow is going to make smart moves or do nothing at all right now IMO.
Long story short...if people want to pay our players, they should go to all the games they can, buy all the beverages they can, and buy all the foam fingers, hotdogs, cotton candy and hats their kids can handle.
It's going to be fun next season seeing this town turn into a baseball town again like it did after 2005. You could probably argue that had already happened by the end of this past season, but I distinctly remember attendance spiking significantly after they went to the World Series the first time and it lasted for a while before the team went into the crapper. It was fun.
If you look closely enough, you can see me in the nosebleeds induced into 3 or 4 separate heart attacks
You know what's going to be a blast? Opening Day...in Arlington...and hearing Astros fan chanting, LET'S GO ASTROS!! I can't wait to hear that.
The Arlingtons outdrew us last year. I'll roadie to meet you miscreants up there. I'll even bring some Rangers fans to taunt.
actually i'm wrong..he'll be in his last days of being a high school senior.... not sure when they go on sale
Poor Fister. Last regular season start is against the Astros. Only postseason start is against the Astros. Likely pitches Game 2 or 3 of the first regular season series in 2018 against the Astros. His 3rd start is likely against the Astros.
I was looking forward to this also since I'm stationed in Kansas, the closest I've been to Houston in 7 years, then I found out I'll be deployed during the start of the season. Refardless, I'll be reppin' the H overseas instead!
Feel bad for Britton, but feel justified that I've been against acquiring him for so long because he's been injury-prone. Wonder if this drives up the Brach price.
