(2012 necrobump) [ESPN] Suns, Gordon agree to 4 year, $58 million agreement

There's a lot of risk vs reward here with EG. He hasn't played enough games with NO to prove he's worth the max contract with Phoenix, but apparently they are willing to take the risk. His game is good when he's on, but the same can be said about Kevin Martin who we've all but wrote off (so sad). I'm one of those who would not want to pay handsomely for a potential bench-warmer due to lingering injuries.

However, I know he doesn't want to stay in NO because he doesn't see them going anywhere. He's been married to losing teams his whole career and maybe, just maybe Houston would be the team the gets him into a playoff, but at what price? Do we give up a string of good players who would rather stay in Houston for one who may have continual knee and wrist issues? It's hard for me to get excited about someone who, while they have all-star credentials, may be wearing a business suit more than a bb uniform.

Don't want to do this until we have got an agreement with Dragic. If perchance we convince Gordon to uncommit, then PHX can go full bore after Dragic.

 

Suns cannot afford all three. Beasley's already agreed, so it's either Gordon or Dragic. (FYI, Rockets could have BOTH.)

Phoenix just offered Dragic 4 years, $30M. Between that lowball offer and the fact that they traded him away, I'm giving the Rockets the edge there.

And, hell, if the Rockets can get Eric Gordon, I'd be willing to roll the dice with Kyle Lowry running the show and wish Dragic well, if necessary.

 

So I guess a S&T is imminent unless they'd be willing to risk their amnesty knowing NO will match.

 

Could they sign Gordon and Dragic, then use their $9mil Nash TPE on Beasley in a S&T with Minny?

 

A healthy Gordon might be good enough to put Lowry in the ASG.
Ideally, we would want a little more length in the backcourt, but other than that, I think it would be a terrific duo. They both play very hard.

 

I think Phoenix knows NO will match. They can either use amnesty or just wait for match to occur before signing Dragic. They may also be able to create room for both by letting Brooks walk. Didn't think the Suns would let that happen.

FYI, I've now decided to give up hope on getting Gordon. Got some information last night that confirms it's not happening. Sigh.
