I'm very surprised that they did. I wouldn't be surprised if Zaza would be targeted now. It's going to be tough for a guy accept that backup center role,I'm not at all surprised about the report which said that Gortat backed out because he didn't want to step into Yao's shoes. I know Morey didn't give him the MLE,but even if he did,it takes a lot of guts to step into a rebuilding side.
There's a multipage thread below this one that says Morey stated he was signed using a disabled player exception. And I'm hoping the press conference they just had means he's signed.
yea i saw that thread already..it says they are going to use the disabled player exception..but to me it doesnt seem like they have already used it..just says that the nba has granted them permission to use it and they plan on using it maybe im being too cautious...and i didnt get to see the press conference, but im assuming everything is all good if he showed up to the press conference i know i know i need to calm down and just accept the fact that ariza is a rocket !! but given the luck of the rockets thus far, one can never be too cautious
First line of that article : The Houston Rockets used the NBA Disabled Player Exception to sign free agent forward Trevor Ariza, according to general manager Daryl Morey. Dammit Mikey, he's not going to do a Boozer. He's a Rocket! What more proof do you need?! A note from his family?!
Could someone with insider post the Chad Ford's comments on the Rockets offseason thus far? http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=OffseasonRankings-09 Thanks.
24. Houston Rockets Key additions: Trevor Ariza Key subtractions: Ron Artest, Dikembe Mutombo In limbo: Von Wafer (R) It's tough to be a Rockets fan right now. Yao Ming might have to miss the entire season with a foot injury. Tracy McGrady is rehabbing again, but you have to wonder if he'll ever be healthy. Ron Artest, who did such a great job of harassing Kobe Bryant in the playoffs, decided that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. And so far the best the Rockets have been able to do is sign Ariza. While he's a talented, athletic wing who in the long run will be an upgrade over Artest, in the short run it's not clear exactly how he'll fit. Put all that together and it looks like the Rockets could be a team in free fall in the West next season.
haha yes that would be good... after seeing his photos in his jersey i can let this rest Now him having an actual number would be even better ...i keed ..i keed
Great pick up! I really dont think we are re-building as much as some may think. Ariza can flat out ball. He's just been in Kobe's shadow most of his career. I am real excited about seeing what he can do next season for us. Morey is a genius by the way for using the DPE on this one!
I love how less than 10 seasons ago, our signing of Ariza to be our franchise player was considered good news.
Now he has good role players on his squad like harden and cp3. This is the real super star ariza that took the place of fake super star portions
When stuff like this happens it just goes to show that Morey isn't the cold-hearted, analytics only, GM he is perceived to be in the media. Ariza wouldn't have come back if his experience here the first time was a bad one. I remember the first time Rockets signed Ariza; Rockets thought he could turn into a star, but they didn't say he was one. I thought they were pretty honest with who Ariza was then. It didn't work out the first time around.
