Let's be honest, though.... 6.9 three's per game is a pretty big number. 9-10 three's a game would be insane. 10 a game would have him #1. 9 a game would have him 3rd behind only Steph and Harden. And as someone else noted, he's playing 30 minutes a game, not Harden's 36.5 ... or even Steph's 33.5. He's already closer on a 3PA per possession basis (Harden is at like 12 per 100 possessions, Anderson at 11... more or less).

I don't think it's a secret that Ryno is pretty important to the teams offensive spacing.

But it's not just the Rockets, or the Ryno ... it's the whole NBA now. Having a PF that can stretch the floor is just super important, because it pulls out 1 big, and free's the lane in a league where the rules favor the guards being able to get into the lane... making even great defenses choose their poison. Draymond Green, Kevin Love and Channing Frye, Pau Gasol (doesn't shoot a ton at 1.6 per game, but 55% on those... wow), Carmelo as a 4 (his most valuable position now), DMC, Mirotic, Ibaka, Saric, Gallinari, Millsap, Lopez, Kaminsky, Towns, Anderson, Speights, Gasol, Horford ... all of these guys have shot at least 220 three pointers this year (except Gasol... but LMA also shoots a high %, though not 200+)

Anderson's 40% from 3 is 33rd in the league for all forwards (small and power), 21st if you exclude everyone who has shot less then 50 three pointers, and top 10 if you're just looking at PFs. And if you just look at players that are really prolific three point shooters, meaning 3-4+ a game, Channing Frye is the only big clsoe to his volume that shoots a better % than him.

Point being, the Rockets offense relies so much on spacing and three point spacing, the three point shooting PF seems to be extra important to the Rockets and Ryan has proved himself pretty consistently to be the best or one of the top 2/3 volume one of those out there. $18 million is a lot of money. More than Channing Frye makes for sure, though Frye is 5 years older, a limited minutes bench guy now - and even he would likely command mid teens if a FA today, because of the value of that skill set.

Looking forward to having him back and hopefully everyone except Dekker as healthy as can be for the playoffs.

Definitely agree. He should be taking the most 3's in the league per possession. He is elite at one thing and below average to bad at everything else. Would love to see him take 1-2 more.

    http://www.chron.com/sports/rockets/article/Rockets-forward-Ryan-Anderson-could-be-back-12404036.php

Rockets forward Ryan Anderson left Sunday’s game after 12 minutes with tightness in his back, initially with plans to return after some therapy before he was ruled out. Though still struggling after the game, Anderson said he was unconcerned that he would have a long-term issue with the back and could even be back by the Rockets game Thursday against the Jazz.

“I just locked up,” Anderson said. “It tightened up really bad to the point that standing there was really hurting me. We did stuff to loosen it up. I think it will be fine, just one of those back spasms, I think.

“I was trying to loosen it up and then I went in for a rebound and it just locked all the way up. I just tweaked it weird. I’ll be fine. Luckily, our schedule is crazy so we have a few days. I think I’ll be good.”

I stopped believing him when he said he went in for a rebound. Surely he tweaked on one of his patented spin move / head fake / spin out / pass to top of key maneuvers.

Stop hating. Anderson has been active on the boards all season.

Would you believe Ryno used to average 3.7 offensive rebounds per game in Orlando? That's more than Anthony Davis in any season of his career or Demarcus Cousins in all but one. He used to be active! Of course it's harder to grab offensive boards now that's he's 25 feet out on offense. He's actually averaging the most defensive rebounds of his career too, which is impressive considering the team leads the league in DRB% and there aren't too many to go around now that Capela is gobbling everything.
