Outside of Watson, this is one of the least inspiring or fun to watch teams in the league? They aren’t even so bad where it is entertaining or you can look forward to the draft. Watson, that is it.
They do have a ton of cap space. They'll also be able to trade up their plethora of mid-round picks if they really want to get somebody earlier. And Hopkins/Clowney would be coveted by pretty much every NFL team. I know you like to **** on the Texans at every opportunity... and many times for good reason... but its not as dire this time around, because yes... they have the most important position in the game seemingly locked up/secured for the foreseeable future (and the division is actually getting weaker and weaker.... Luck isn't a sure thing anymore, and Jacksonville will likely be in the market again for a QB).
Not saying the Texans can’t turn it around next season. They certainly have some very good pieces on the roster and as you said, if they are smart they can fill a lot of their holes through free agency or players getting healthy. I am talking about right now, this season there isn’t much inspiring with this team since Watson went down. If the Texans have a very good off season and get healthy; they can be a drastically different team next season.
Well, sure... they also lost Watt and Merciless (who I think was one of the most important factors for this defense coming into the year, and he hardly gets mentioned as one of the key losses). Losing 3 of your top 5 players coming into the year is going to leave a lot of "uninspiring" football, even for the elite organizations. And in the end, Hopkins playing like a top 5 WR (post-extension) and Clowney making a noticeable impact every game is nothing to scoff at.... its just not as sexy as having a stud QB breaking records as a rookie.
I agree with you for the most part. Some of it they brought on themselves (Secondary and Offensive line); and some of it is just bad luck with injuries to key pieces. Hopkins play having possibly his best year (under the circumstances) and Clowney is a Pro Bowler but right now there isn’t much around them.
