I've been exploring the NBA.com stats site for a bit, and they actually have some really nice shot charts, both at the team level and player level. You can customize them for game conditions or range of dates. It even allows you to watch video of every shot taken (make or miss). That's really cool! Is this a well-known feature, and I've just been out of the loop? Check it out: http://on.nba.com/2i8Wenr Edit: So, the shot charts don't seem to account for shot clock filter. But the quarter filter works.
Spurs shot charts: The spread attack is hardly dead. I'm interested in how our team will perform during the playoffs and how the offense will be used to abuse what the defense gives them. I have to believe that some midrange breaks the back of defenses that think they have you figured out.
To put it simply, players will attempt to score from where they are confident (also why superstars feel they can score from anywhere) and Spurs have a lot of players that are great from the midrange. Kawhi, LMA, Parker, and Ginobli are all good to great from that distance. We really only had Harden and Ryno's one legged fade last year. Before that, it was Beverley and Brewer that might take a midrange. This year we add Paul who is actually damn good at it. We will be much more versatile come playoffs time this year. Also... thanks to Harden's, and now CP3's as well, offensive brilliance, we get a lot of open 3's. It's not like shooters are putting up contested attempts when Harden or CP3 man the point. Players are literally getting 2-3 or infinite time to shoot wide open shots. As opposing D and schemes start to get more stingy, that midrange will come and CP3 will be more than happy to lead by example. After all, CP3 loves to take what the D gives him and Harden isn't too far behind with that idea.
I really hope you're right, but this year feels different. Normally I'd think 'we'll see what we look like down the line'. I don't just hope you're right, I think you're right about us adjusting within the bigger playbook coach has implemented so far. There are definitely new attack angles to use for different defenses. I look forward to playing teams that try to take the three pointer away from us.
