Obviously this news dropped to 1600 Pennsylvania earlier in the week hence the impotent tweetstorms. Hope we don't start a nuclear war over the weekend. That's not a ****ing joke btw.
And interesting the timing of the testimony of Trump's son-in-law regarding Flynn... did Kushner sell Flynn out, or did Flynn sell Kushner out?
Ah, looking like a plea deal -- seeing he will plead guilty to lying to FBI -- there had to have been additional charges looming.
My guess is that this charge is a lot milder than Flynn could have been charged with. It'll be interesting to see if Flynn's son gets charged with something. Maybe not. I think this is all part of a deal. I'll add that I'm at least as worried about a war breaking out in Korea as Sam is. God, I hope not.
General question here... While it appears that Flynn is going the same route as Popppapapapadaolaus and we are not 100% certain that more charges were on the table, can someone explain to me why they would prosecute him on the lesser charge still? Is it just leverage by the SC? Do you need to have some sort of charge to be cooperating?
... but ... People were saying that Flynn was a good man ... except for James Comey who got fired for that offense.
This is my guess, and pure conjecture, but perhaps the leverage was also over his son. Michael Flynn Jr. has been especially antagonistic to Mueller on social media and was part of the elder Flynn's company with ties to Turkey. It feels like a classic move: threaten the child, get the parent to roll on the real targets, plead down.
The special counsel’s office will convene a hearing at 10:30 AM EST. At this hearing, former national security adviser Michael Flynn is expected to plead guilty to making a false statement to the FBI. The statement involved Flynn’s meeting with the Russian ambassador and with discussion of sanctions that were imposed under the Obama administration along with potential Russian responses. Earlier, Trump policy advisor George Papadopoulos also pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI as part of a deal in which Papadapoulos agreed to cooperate with the special counsel. Multiple reports over the last week have indicated that Flynn is also negotiating to cooperate with the investigation.
Trump must be hoping that there are additional Flynn charges and that Flynn did not give him up to Mueller.
