Dirk is Zero for sure. I did say that Zach would be a wild card. If the Kings want to move him around the deadline, they will probably trade him, I admit.
I intended the thread to be a "realistic" buyout discussion, but I also added the word "wishlist" so that's on me. There's no traction on anyone getting bought out at this point because surely teams will try to exhaust the trade market before they resort to a buyout. The trade deadline will likely include some "expiring contracts" moving and (I assume) lead to some buyouts. I think Wes Matthews and Joe Johnson stick out to me as reasonable candidates as they're older players on young teams that will not be competitive this year. I could totally see Randolph being bought out (his 2 and $24 is nowhere near as onerous as Josh Smith's Detroit contract) but I don't see him fitting on our squad at all. As I said, I'm looking for switchy wings (Matthews/Johnson), Bobby Bucket's replacement (and PG injury insurance), or alternatively a JaVale McGee type... i.e. a rim runner/rim protector that has a ****-ton of athleticism but has yet to put it to productive use (Noel?).
I don't know if Monroe will come cheap, but if the Rockets take a gamble on him, I would welcome it, if he doesn't cost us more than a low 1st round pick. Half court play plus shooting off the bench, will be valuable in the playoffs.
The problem with trading a 1st is it would be our 2020 and cramps our flexibility regarding trades going further so I find it highly unlikely. We likely will not be trading any future 1sts until after we convey our 2018 1st to the clippers. So In that respect I find Monroe as not likely at all for us. Especially if you add in the fact that it “appears” morey is trying to stay under the luxury tax “this year” to avoid the repeater tax as long as possible considerring our future looks completely taxed going forward. Honestly, it’s the right move. Especially with having to resign cp3 and matching whatever capela gets. Not too mention any dream scenario or trade acquiring we do this offseason. I don’t even think we make a trade this deadline. It would be a shock and the first time ever under morey, but it just feels that way. If anything happens it will be a cheap thing. Or at max something like black, nanu and Troy for belly which keeps us under the tax with room to acquire a buyout center, ie: Tyson
There's no room in the rotation for legitimate buyout candidates barring injury. MDA has his nine guys.
Agreed. The only name i would gladly take is Chandler (even though i don't think Phoenix will buy him out) cause he fits and the Spurs won't get him if he comes here, this way you can also trade Black with a 2nd rounder and/or another filler if needed to get another veteran as insurance for whichever spot. Spoiler Oh, i'd like to get Vince Carter if nothing better will be available lol
Seriously. It can actually mess guys up to get their minutes too choppy. Luc is only playing like 27 minutes now, same for Tucker. You take those guys down to what, 20 minutes? You can really start to mess with guys, not just their rhythm either, but you think Luc will be excited if his minutes get cut? He's thinking about earning a payday.
A big is probably the only buyout candidate that's realistic for us to even consider right now. Would absolutely take Tyson Chandler if he were bought out or another stretch four type if one got bought out (not happening). All these guards and wings are good but not realistic unless someone goes down with injury. If a guy like Wes Matthews were bought out why would he want to sign here when other contending teams could give him real minutes?
If Randolph is bought out, then the Kings front office will look like a bunch of idiots. Josh Smith was different because he had been with Atlanta for quite awhile and I'm sure they had exhausted all of their trade avenues if there were any. For the SAC FO to give Zach Randolph that deal and not even a full season later buy him out would make them look pretty incompetent IMO. Wes Matthews will only be leaving Dallas via trade unless there are few offers and Matthews creates drama looking to get out, which I doubt happens.
