They had Urban Meyer for a few years having a legendary coach elevate your program to elite level is the exception, not the rule, but for the most part (including right now) UF football has played second fiddle to FSU and/or Miami.

Spurrier, Meyer, and a whole lot of mediocrity.

Meyer dumped UF for tOSU the moment that job became open because he knew he couldn't keep up the success at Florida with the rise of Saban and Auburn. tOSU is a real blue blood, UF is not. Auburn has nattys but they are still second banana in their own state, if Auburn and Penn State both had openings, 9 times out of 10 a HC would take the Penn State job.

Meyer "retired" before tOSU opened up. You could say he saw the writing on the wall for Tressell but don't forget he also "resigned" 2 years before that for the same reason he ended up "retiring."

    LMAO at Tennessee.

Like that chick who says "if you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best."

Dudes and coaches will just stay away.

The Brohm situation today was a great example of how Tennessee's bungling of the Schiano situation ends up working against it in ways you can't predict.

The fact that Brohm's hiring appeared to be imminent, only to have it not pan out in the end, makes it look like a continuation of their clown show, when it was really probably just bad reporting. They're just not going to get the benefit of the doubt for anything in this search.

I've seen it reported by ASU's Rivals site that Herm Edwards is going to be the coach at Arizona State after all. Not only that, but apparently they were all-in on him, as the deal has been done for days.

Seems like a strange hire, but the thing I love about hires like this is that we get to see how they play out.

Playing to win the game, Arizona State has hired Herm Edwards (pending President approval).

He is old and I don’t think he magically makes ASU a top 25 team. However he IS a good role model and he genuinely cares about kids and he will do what is right, not just what will win football games.

If I'm an ASU fan or alum, I'm really kind of worried about the direction of the athletic department, and not necessarily because I think Herm Edwards is a bad hire (although I think he is).

For one, the idea that your AD used to be an agent and now he's hired one of his former clients as a head coach is just kind of icky. As a matter of fact, the idea that your AD used to be an agent is just kind of icky on its own.

The AD has also come out and said that he wants to run ASU athletics "like a business." To me, that's a coded way of saying that you shouldn't expect them to go above and beyond to invest anything beyond the bare minimum. I'm not suggesting you should be financially irresponsible, but I'd want to know that he's not afraid to spend to stay relatively competitive if the situation calls for it. It also probably means more neutral site football games and early-season college basketball tournaments in far-flung locales. Those are pretty good for making money, but they're terrible for fans, especially at a place like Arizona State that can usually stack their schedule with home games.

The irony here is that if he really wanted to run the department like a business, it would seem that the best business decision would have been to keep Graham to avoid having to pay his buyout, ESPECIALLY if you were just going to keep all of the assistant coaches. Frankly, ADs who overtly share that they want to run things like a business don't have a great success rate. Ask any Texas or Michigan fan how Steve Patterson and Dave Brandon worked out.

He's not young at 63yrs old. But, he's not ancient either. He's got some years left. I like this move just because it's interesting and different. I will now have my eye on ASU.

Looks like Fisher will be heading to A&M. 3 decommits tonight with some saying they haven't heard from the coaching staff in weeks. That's more telling than anything. We'll see what the final figure is but some new reports saying it's actually in the $8.5M range. Nuts.

If true, I guess it's Willie Taggart or bust for FSU.

Oregon has apparently offered him a contract extension in preparation. Justin Fuentes is another name that FSU has begun to vet.
