In a lot of European countries, sex with what we'd consider underage girls would be legal. For example, the legal age in Italy is 14 when it comes to having sex with those over 18 and 13 when having sex with those under 18. The age rises to 16 if the person having sex with them has a degree of control over them such as being a teacher or adoptive parent. In the majority of Western Europe the age of consent is either 14 or 15. I think it's fair to say that Europe has a significantly different take on the issue than those in the US do.
I'm not offended. I'm seriously just shocked by how many Republican politicians appear to be child molesters, if that list is correct. I am not aware of anything of this magnitude in European politics. So I am wondering - is it a Republican thing or a US thing? Any Democrats?
I think what we've learned in this thread is that the GOP secretly has European values. Just look at Bobby's depth of research on this topic. It is kind of unprecedented.
I am guessing there are probably the same number of pedophiles on both side. However the fact that racist republicans are molesting underage black girls is kind of strange.
From wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strom_Thurmond Six months after Thurmond died at the age of 100 in 2003, his mixed-race, then 78-year-old daughter Essie Mae Washington-Williams (1925–2013) revealed he was her father. Her mother Carrie Butler (1909–1948) had been 16 years old and working as his family's maid when Thurmond initiated a sexual relationship with her. He was 22. Butler died in 1948 when Washington-Williams would turn 23. Although Thurmond never publicly acknowledged Essie Mae Washington, he paid for her education at a historically black college and passed other money to her for some time.
Great defense for the Christian conservatives on the right. "It's no big deal, they do it in Godless Europe!"
It's just context. I get that we have several people that want to feign outrage for partisan reasons, but I'm not a big fan of that.
