I live in Austin and went into a Sears during a week day last November on short notice to buy a mattress. There was not a a single person there besides me and my mother in the giant store. They did not have a king in the version I wanted in the store so I left. That may be the last time I ever go in one. I did actually buy my front load washer and dryer there a few Black Fridays ago.
Amazon is a world leading logistics company and a front for a lot of third party sellers at this point. You might get counterfeit goods as a result. I don’t know if that was an issue with brick and mortar stores because of how their distribution channels were set up.
Can't you just buy products sold directly by Amazon? Anyways, will probably do some good to free up commercial storefronts for other uses like parks/housing which will always be in short supply in cities.
Try buying electronic goods from Amazon. In my experience approximately 50% are not sold by Amazon and are being sold for much lower than the normal price (see beats headphones for an example).
A trade war with China or Mexico would hurt everyone involved. Mexico and Canada pulling out of NAFTA would hurt us a lot too.
