Yeah, I like the term "Snake back." nice Never heard that before, but noticed it is a common dribbling tactic against ICE defense. The video is a great example of ICE defense on wing PnRs. Here's my quick diagram of the Snake Back dribble against the ICE defenders. The top PG defender is in ICE defense. Don't say he screwed up, that's the defense...with a Big in drop-back position (called the "Blue Defender"), this is a very popular PNR defense Thibs invented. While that is a strong way to zone the superstar PnRs like WB's and Harden's, they have also learned to "snake" underneath their picker by having him continue screening the PG defender. The dribble like that is almost a natural response to the angles of the ICE defenders. By dribbling In once, then "back" to direction you first intended, you are avoiding the PG defender...and you are back into your desired PNR attack angles...with the PG defender chasing the play. That said, I have seen Harden turn the ball over a lot trying to snake his dribble through the crease/gap in the ICE zone defense. You are dribbling into the heart of the defense. Takes good timing with your picker.
I've found that it doesn't matter. BB-Ref and NBA.com might have slightly different Pacing numbers that change the ORtg a little bit, but it changes every team the same, such that the rankings are still the same between the two sites. Since he reported this so fast, I'm going to guess he is referencing nba.com, since bb-ref recalculations lag behind.
Rockets already at #2 offense when you factor out garbage time (which this site below does) https://www.cleaningtheglass.com/stats/league/fourfactors GSW: 116.8 HOU: 111.6 MIN: 110.7 LAC: 110.0
Nice site. I know I'll forget about it though, like I do all the other adv sites that are cool. What's that one that shows the player rotation minutes as a line graph above their stats
Quarter breakdown of PPG: 1st - 30.5 PPG - 2nd in the league behind Wizards - 3rd in last 3 games 2nd - 28.3 PPG - 9th in the league - 3rd in last 3 games 3rd - 27.8 PPG - 6th in the league - 1st in last 3 games 4th - 23.4 PPG - dead last. Ouch, though our 3rd stringers just hoisting up threes has a lot to do with that - 26th in last 3 games PPG in the paint - 24th in the league, which is quite shocking with our attacks, but I guess we still settle way too much. Fast break PPG - 15th in the league at 9.6. Golden State is 1st and has 26.5. This definitely has to improve if we want our strategy to succeed! Offensive efficiency: 2nd behind Warriors, 1st in last 3 games https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stats/
How the hell can a team be 2nd in offensive efficiency despite being a mediocre fast break team? Is Harden really that special in the half-court lol?
HP, I've added to my sig and others, now I just to be more active so you may not forget the site. PM me if you have other suggestions for other stats/analytics sites that I could add... yes i can get a little too geeky with NBA stats especially in this digital age
Rockets need to start moving the rock more on offense like they did in the 3rd Q tonight. When defenders are keyed in like they are in the playoffs you need to have cuts and screens + more ball movement. Hopefully they realize this. Other than health this is the only criticism I have.
