So word around the campfire is that this turd is getting charged with Desertion under Article 85 of the UCMJ, he could face a maximum of 5 years in prison if they don't count this as a time of war, or if they consider his offense to have happened during a time of war they can sentence him to anything they deem appropriate, including death.

Congratulations, that's the most ridiculous, ignorant post I've seen here in a LONG time.

Just an embarrassment of a sentence by that judge. That said, I imagine if this traitor is going to stay in America, he'll have to have his head on a swivel for the rest of his life.....there's gonna be a LOT of pissed off vets out to get him.

I don't think it is quite appropriate to saddle him with responsibility for everything that happened in trying to find him. I think those are risks that the Army should shoulder, not individuals. But, I do think the sentence is too light for desertion. Giving him credit for 5 years imprisonment and torture at the hands of the Taliban doesn't make sense. That's just something bad that happened to him. That's like letting a guy off for dwi because he lost his leg in the ensuing accident. Sorry about the leg, but you still need to go to jail.

If troops/resources were diverted from elsewhere to help look him for then i find it hard to make that claim.

He’s not a hero. He’s only a hero because he got shot. I prefer people who don’t get shot. -Trump

The judge didn't explain anything. People are assuming why. Some possibility.

Dahl testified that he had found no evidence that any soldiers had been killed while specifically engaged in the effort to retrieve Bergdahl.

Command Sgt. Maj. Ken Wolf said the same thing.

The podcast investigating the Bergdahl case from seemingly all conceivable angles over the past few months, debunked the persistent rumor that six soldiers from his battalion had been killed during the 45-day, all-out search for Bergdahl. They were all killed in August and September, after the exhausting search effectively had been called off and the mission had changed to secure upcoming Afghanistan elections, according to court testimony.

“We looked and we looked and we looked and we didn’t find him,” said Wolf, who was the top enlisted leader in Bergdahl’s brigade. “No one in the Army is going to say, ‘We stopped looking for you’, O.K? But here’s the deal — it’s been 45 days and at this point we know where he’s at. He’s in Pakistan.”
Same article shows what the Army has done:

The podcast revealed that two other soldiers had walked off their posts in Afghanistan. In 2012, a soldier left his forward operating base to walk to join his unit at their outpost. In 2010, a soldier left FOB Sharana planning to walk to eastern Europe, carrying sunscreen and an ornamental sword and battle ax. Both were discovered early on by Afghan police and returned to their units before any harm was done. Neither was charged. The one planning to walk to Europe was sent home “to get the help he needed,” a military therapist told podcast host Sarah Koenig. The Army treats people like that as “head cases,” the therapist told Koenig, “like astronauts taking off their helmets in space”.

Bergdahl was diagnosed with schizotypal personality disorder following an Army Sanity Board evaluation. A July 27, 2015, memorandum from the sanity board stated "Though Sgt. Bergdahl did have a severe mental disease or defect at the time of the alleged criminal conduct, he was able to appreciate the nature and quality and wrongfulness of this conduct."

The defense argued they could never get a fair trail and asked for it to be dismissed because of Trump's loud mouth, which can play into why they choose to plead guilty. (This is why YOU DO NOT comment on a trial when you can become, or already is POTUS).

Too bad that the extreme haters of Bergdahl for the most part love to create more Bergdahls by sending the "voluntary" lol army to fight stupid wars.
