Toss up for me between 94 Rockets and 17 Astros... Obviously both series stressed me out going 7, but it paid off in the end . I'm a big basketball fan first so probably 94 then 17. I loved the 95 run too, epic reunion with Hakeem and Clyde. Then again 17 with all that Harvey mess, so happy the Astros pulled it off, beat the Sox/Yankees/Dodgers, and doing it on the road against LA!! I do have to mention that 05 chip too, but I'm a Longhorn so... That explains that - born in Houston but went to UT. I did cheer for the Texans though, but will always be partial to my Hometown. Don't get me wrong VY was great in college, but not going to cheer for the Titans since the Texans were already here.
Every one of these championships are special, because they are so difficult to achieve (just ask the Chicago Cubs, prior to last year). Still, the '94 Rockets has to rank #1 just because it was the city first major championship.
People are due to finally be right !!!!! Astros have the greatest chance of any recent team -- Youth + Player Control Verlander is locked up, and losing Beltran will be an upgrade. Cubs are good, but they barely beat an injured CLE team.
Baseball is my favorite sport, but that 94 championship being the first one might be impossible to beat. I’d put this as 1b.
94 Rockets - The city`s first. Clutch City is born. 17 Astros - Start to finish, maybe this city`s most dominant team ever 95 Rockets - Special no doubt but just doesnt top the city`s/Rocket`s first or the Astros' first
Born in 1980 and from Victoria. I am a Longhorns, Astros, Cowboys, and Hornets fan. 1. 2005 UT championship win over USC still stands as #1. I am simply more passionate about college sports and UT football in particular since I went to school at Texas. But also that game was unparalleled in the level of talent and drama. As I get older and sports mean less and less to me, it’s hard to see anything ever topping it. 2. 2017 Astros World Series win. I grew up going to Astros games once a summer as a kid; the Astros and Jose Cruuuuuuuuuz were my first introduction into big time sports. I never lived in Houston but the Astros were always my team. Around 2008 I started getting very interested in the minor leagues and how players are developed and how major league organizations are run. I started following the Astros’ system pretty obsessively and so this team means a lot to me. I have a signed McCullers Greeneville Astros shirt. I know who Grant Hogue is. So this win was a LONG time coming. On top of that, the actual playoffs were unbelievable, this World Series was easily one of the most exciting ever even for non-fans. 3. Cowboys Super Bowl wins. These all happened when I was a kid, but I remember the excitement and will always have fond memories of the Aikman years. These memories pale in comparison to the 2 above though.
2017 Astros 1994 Rockets 1995 Rockets Astros are the first team I've gotten to see win it all in my teenage/adult life. Was around 7 years old when the Rockets went back to back and only have faint memories. The Astros though though I'll never forget for the rest of my life
'94 '17 Astros '95 I ranked the '94 the highest because if some of you may remember there were a lot of cars with shoe polish on windows. It was unbelievable to see so many people uniting for 1 team. Then there was OJ and the slow Bronco chase, it was like watching two events at one time with the picture-in picture. And I remembered Rudy T running to the locker room holding the #1 finger when Hakeem blocked John Starks. I remember vividly the 1st one which is why I ranked that as memorable to me.
This. I was incredibly happy when the Rockets won in 94 but this is beyond that for me. We started going to games when we moved to Houston in 1980. My dad wasn't that in to basketball and Rockets games were always so expensive. It's always been Astros #1 for me in terms of my love for my Houston teams. To make it even better, they took out baseball royalty on the way. The only way this could've been made better is if we somehow beat the Cubs and Cardinals, too.
94 rockets 05 horns 95 rockets 17 astros That 05 horns game is simply one of the best championship games of all time against ESPN claims as the GOAT team. OJ Simpson ruined the 95 rockets finals. Game 1 was the only interesting game.
lol at the Texas 05 stuff. A huge portion of Houstonians were cheering against them. They don't count as local.
Thread isn't limited to HOU only. The Horns are well represented locally. I like them, but the Coogs come first.
The 2017 WS might be the greatest ever. Most broadcasters have said it's the best they've witnessed and those guys are age 50+. I didn't like the fact it went seven while it was happening, but seven made it more epic. Two of the greatest games occurred within the series too. OJ was chased during '94, Game 5.
