I don't think Buck has been that bad even though he is still smug. Smoltz and the post game guys have been very good.
Entertaining piece about how crazy this game was. https://www.sbnation.com/2017/10/30/16568546/2017-world-series-game-5-dodgers-astros-wat The Astros and Dodgers broke the game of baseball into a million pieces Game 5 of the 2017 World Series was baseball. Unless it was another sport entirely. HOUSTON — Words fail. Analogies go limp. A common refrain for a game like Game 5 of the 2017 World Series is that baseball is drunk. Baseball is not drunk. Drunk people don’t fall up the stairs, through a window, and explode upon contact with the moon. This is not a movie. Movies have plots, logical progressions from A to B. This is not an avant-garde movie, either, where the director was trying to be weird. Both the Dodgers and Astros really, really, really wanted to be normal, and they absolutely could not. Game 2 of the 2017 World Series forced me to break out the hyperbole stick, and angry readers wrested it from my hands and beat me with it. It was somewhat deserved. But the hyperbole stick is in control now. There’s nothing you can say about it that isn’t at least partially grounded in the truth. It was Michael Bay directing a movie based on Snoopy’s novel. A door slammed! A maid screamed! Suddenly, a pirate ship appeared on the horizon! The two teams rolled on the ground grappling beneath the murderous hooves! A left and a right! A left! Another left and right! An uppercut to the jaw! And there were explosions, explosions, explosions the whole time. More at link.
I was listening to KFAN Minnesota sports talk radio and the Midday host was ripping this game. He said it was the worst thing to happen to baseball and he believes the balls are juiced.
verlander said it was difficult to autograph these baseballs they're using, something about the ink not staying.
If the Astros could use all of their starters as relievers for the remaining game(s) that would be great in my opinion.
Yep. I'm a big fan of Common and I'm not bothered by what he was saying. I find it pretty funny how he put it. This is one area though he's said he doesn't like high scoring games so that he said he hated it I take his word at that. He and Mark Rosen are talking about right now and Common Man is bringing up again that there is a conspiracy. He just said MLB is selling out just for ratings. Feel free to listen here. https://www.iheart.com/live/kfan-sp...true&pname=15400&campid=header&cid=index.html
Yeah, yeah, yeah - I've been witness to every single one of them. Boo hoo. You all act like Houston is unique. They're not. Additionally, those random circumstances have nothing to do with one another. The Oilers blowing a 32-point lead has no relationship to the prospect of the Astros blowing a 3-2 lead in this series. Etc. etc.
Man, I know that's just a saying and I'm not going SJW on you or anything but.... I have coped with anxiety my entire life by biting my nails. I hate that I do it, I do it before I realize that I do it most of the time and I have tried soooo many things to keep myself occupied and not do it. Sometimes I do pretty well, other times it shows that I've been stressed out. Right now my nails are destroyed!!!
The post game guys have been good outside of that wierd fixation A-rod had with the seven iron the other night .
He IS smug - but I think he's been great. We got home last night and rewatched some of the at-bats... his calls were tremendous. He's definitely enjoying himself and he really seems to like the Astros. There're two things fans need to know about national broadcasters: 1) they are in the stadium and reacting to the energy of the crowd. If it's loud and frenetic, their call will meet that standard (case in point: last night) and it will always sound like they're favoring the home team; that's why HR calls for the ROAD team are less enthusiastic; 2) they are laser-focused on being fair and neutral. I promise you, while it's not an exact science, Buck is acutely aware of how much air time he's giving one team v. the other. AS FANS, who are stressed and nervous and filtering everything... when he talks about the Dodgers, it sets off alarms. But, I promise you: go back and rewatch ANY game where you think he's been biased and, with the results known and all the anxiety gone, you'll hear note how objective and down the middle he actually is. OR, listen to him work a game that doesn't feature your favorite team. He'll probably STILL come off as smug (that's just his personality) - but you won't notice a bias. AND... he does his homework. Again, go back and watch the LCS or WS; he knows the history of this ball club (likely personally - remember, he's from St. Louis); he has been very respectful of the Astros' history.
Not sure I follow the relevance of your point. but whatever, no big deal. We won an incredible game. This is not a thread for arguing.
Stop reliving 20, 30, 40-year old random, unconnected failures that have no current relevance. That's my point. The Astros NEVER win these games... THIS Astros team has won several in the past few weeks, and quite a few this season. So why are we talking about Phi Slama Jama?
anyone know where a video of the fan on the field is? I have a little on my snap story but thats just after he was caught and getting walked off the field
These events have no connections to each other. But they have vivid connections IN OUR EXPERIENCE as Houston sports fans. You may want to live your live as choppy unconnected chunks. My live is a continuous whole. I suspect most fans are like me. Are you saying that your past experiences, failure or success, have no relevance to how you currently feel and view about things? You can't appreciate Clutch City without experiencing Choke City.
