gotta hope keuchel goes long and maybe mccugh can be a long reliever like lance in game 7 or peacock in game 3. If it doesnt work like that, then we may need to trust gregerson for a meaningful inning
I know he already started a game, but do you think maybe Lance could come in and close down some games for the remainder of the series instead of long relief?
If the Astros don't win, I would rather see them go down with someone else on the mound as opposed to seeing Giles fail once again. Please, no more Giles.
He's currently the guy who would be on normal rest for a game 7. Peacock would probably be available for 1-2 innings today. I'm not sure why we didn't use McHugh last night, but he's also out there. Ideally, you get 7-8 from Keuchel and McHugh bridges to Devo for the 9th. You then have Verlander/Peacock loaded for game 6, and can use McCullers, Morton, and Keuchel for a game 7.
So Giles may be having trouble with the slick balls players are complaining about. His slider is affected.
Thanks for the link Mr.Scarface Deadspin - Report: World Series Baseballs Are Too Slick To Throw A Good Slider Sports Illustrated - Historic World Series Home Run Rate may be Result of Slicker Baseballs https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/10/29/w...-verlander-yu-darvish-ken-giles-kenley-jansen This should probably be a separate thread. If the article above is correct, which it appears to be since both the Dodgers and Astros confirm what is in the article, it means that any pitcher that relies on a slider should not be on the mound throwing.
On most nights it is not enough to win. Yesterday we had to a chance to win it despite our crappy offensive performance. You expect your closer and bullpen to be able to at least hold the lead and get 3 outs to give your team a chance in the bottom of the 9th.
so, we get to blame the baseball then? no wonder giles has been so bad in the playoffs. he's a slider guy and the balls are slick. duh!
It affects both teams, but it's totally preposterous that MLB would allow this to happen after the players spent all year getting used to a ball that a whole bunch of pitchers said was different than the ones of the past.
Cant look back. We just had a performance for the ages and have verlander lined up. Verlander needs to nut up and close these cali fools out!
It seems like the Dodgers are hitting everything, but their batting average doesn’t reflect it. So I’m not sure what to say at this point. We may need to go with a junkballer like Gregerson to keep them off balance. But I think I would go with Morton and Keuchel as my relievers in 6 or 7. With Peacock as my ace. Just got to throw something out there they havent seen.
Regardless of his struggles, I think he would have been able to close out the 9th yesterday and not give up all 3 runs like Devo did
That's setting the bar pretty low. He's done for this series. Verlander will pitch deep into Game 6 unless he pulls a Game 5 Keuchel and then Hinch will probably rely on other starters out of the bullpen. The real question is does he roll the dice and use McCullers in Game 6 in relief if they're up 1 or 2 runs late?
Don’t understand having him on the roster and never using him against some of their left handed batters. Or does he totally suck against lefties?
When the post-season began, he was the least trusted guy in the pen. Now, nearly every relief pitcher on the WS roster has become untrusted. Hard to say where Liriano fits right now.
