I did see a funny ass comment by a Dodgers fan on Facebook in the comment section on an article about this. It said

"He is a 33 year old rookie, that's punishment enough"

I dunno...what does TMZ say? TMZ let me down on the Hinch bar fight bs! But, they've been right on being first on celebrities who died. Didn't they break the Tom Petty death first?

Does anyone understand Yuli's apology/explanation? I still don't get it. It's clouded by the fact that he used this "chino" word. I think all anyone cares about is his slant eye gesture and I don't understand what he intended. I read something about it relating to something he said to his family about facing Japanese pitchers...like he was doing the gesture to his family so they would see it and would understand it. Then, I read he was doing it to pretend he was a Japanese player as he was able to do well off a Japanese pitcher when he hasn't had much success in the past (he felt like a Japanese player for a moment...in respect to their ability to hit Japanese pitching when he hasn't fared as well). I'm still trying to put it all together. That translator is probably mis-translating some of that actual meaning of what Yuli is trying to convey.

This statement is hilariously ironic given that certain people are having a hard time empathizing with me, as a white person, in taking offense to the term.

This little article sums up the point I'm making about the term "white privilege" pretty well. It is most definitely a racist term.

Yeah that's because other countries don't have the history of gross discrimination that was in the us.

What he did was not that big of a deal... It was insensitive but not really a big deal. What is a big deal is the way people like you are making this a call to arms. For every one person condemning him in this thread the are 5 people getting upset that people are criticising him at all.

It's people like you making this into this self righteous crusade against PC while the rest of us just are saying wow that was an ignorant thing he did which he apologized for.

I hope he doesn't get suspended.

There's no need to defend him though.

You're trying to use logic in a discussion with identitarians....you know that's doomed to fail right?

My understanding is that he was saying he was a Japanese player because he was able to get a hit off a Japanese guy for the first time. That’s a plausible explanation. Still stupid. But I also don’t see why he would mock him with just a random Asian eyes gesture after hitting a home run. Showing up the other teams pitcher isn’t something I’ve seen from Yuli not to mention his history with Japan.

I don’t see it as being done with malicious intent, but that’s the light the media will portray it in, because thats the better story.

Either way, a suspension would be just as stupid.

The way I'm interpreting it is...

    1. He hits the homer
    2. Something is said back in the dugout about how he might as well be Japanese because he is hitting off a Japanese pitcher..or something
    3. He says look I'm a Japanese person (or something) and does the eye thing.

i don't know I mean I kinda wish he just didn't ****ing do it....:(:(

This should be about the Astros up 2-1

Yea no matter what happens tonight with regards to Yuli, majority of the early part of the game or if a key part of the game involves Yuli or not having him cause of this... thats gonna be the main topic instead of the actual game. I hope Im wrong.

These guys need to behave like they are always on camera. You never know where that camera is pointing. That's probably a lesson learned for him. Pictures are forever.

So should we just retweet the hell out of the Dodgers player doing the same thing to LA media so they can figure out what should be done about that?

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I wonder how many games this dude got suspended for <a href="https://t.co/9isW5FPp3X">pic.twitter.com/9isW5FPp3X</a></p>&mdash; Kyle McNamee (@KSmack94) <a href="">October 28, 2017</a></blockquote>

An unfortunate side effect of networks and blogs needing enough material to fill 24 hours a day coupled with our pussified culture is stories like this getting blown out of proportion.

Lol. Classic. You the king troll and most intellectually lazy poster on this board crying about being teased!

What's the matter bigotexxx? Need your safe space? Need to cry about some football players kneeling during the anthem? Because that's not ok but mocking races is in your eyes? Yeah talk about lazy. "I have seen colored poor people...them minorities need to shut up and be like us whites! "

    I own you b****. Grow a pair.

Clutchfans: Old white people are the ultimate authority on what's offensive or not. All minorities should stfu about their feelings, especially the Asians.

They felt offended. That’s legit. Yuli apologized. The only thing left is for Yuli to back his apology with an action like supporting Japan or an effort against racism. And that puts it all behind us. And it fulfills what an apology should do as well as what Darvish suggested as an outcome. And the Astros organization should support that. It’s Shaq Yao all over again. You can see both sides of it, but it doesn’t matter, one side was offended, so the offender should make a proper apology and make an effort to understand and assist in not letting it happen again. We’re all humans and in this together.
