There's a picture circulating showing a Dodgers player doing the same thing. I think it's from this season but not completely sure
He gon get suspended. I'm sure he's totally embarrassed about it now, which he should be. "But he didn't think he'd get caught!" probably ain't gonna fly with the league (who, yes, are total hypocrites w/r/t the Indians name/logo). That said, Yuli seems to be appropriately acknowledging and apologizing for a stupid mistake. Yu handled the incident well despite everyone wanting him to either be furious or make a civil rights speech. 'Stros will have to take their discipline like men and remember why this sort of thing pisses people off.
The phrase white privilege is the equivalent to the N word to a white person. I do hope you will refrain from using it.
I don’t think what Gurriel did is that bad. And I’m totally 100% sure it doesn’t have malicious racist intent behind it. But in all seriousness, are you stupid? Stop getting overly political in here. You’re making yourself look like an idiot.
No. The phrase is used by non-whites and even whites to disparage white people based on the color of their skin. The phrase is thrown at white people in general and has no basis in fact. This is racism plain and simple.
The media tried but Brian Chen stood up for Humberto so it passed over quick. As a Black kid who moved to an almost all white area, I got this a lot too. They'd go "you're Black so you're naturally good at basketball", "freestyle freestyle", "dance you're Black so you can dance", "you got the BBC don't you?". It was all in good fun and I soaked up being the token to be honest lol Where?
Go back to the 8th grade. And gain some self-awareness. “White privilege” is equivalent to “******” now. Just wow.
No, you're the ignorant one if you don't see how the phrase is offensive to white people who are in no way privileged. Since you are presumably not white I wouldn't expect you to understand. The only reason people utter that phrase is to degrade people with white skin. Textbook racism.
It hasn't been 24 hours and I've already reached Downey, Jr. level with this whole Yuli thing. The man made a foolish, insensitive mistake, he apologized. Darvish took all but 10 seconds to forgive him. Either forgive him, or don't, but move the hell on. I swear people will just pounce on something to get angry about and insist on STAYING angry about it. Astros are up 2-1 in the WORLD DAMN SERIES, let's talk about that.
Been white all my life and have never even remotely been offended by that phrase. I’ve never, before your posts on it, heard anyone say they were. The only textbook that would be considered racism in had to have been written by Richard Spencer and/or Steve Bannon...the 2 most sensitive snowflakes of the white nationalist movement.
Richard Spencer is an idiot and Bannon is a buffoon. I have plenty of white friends who take offense to it.
It's not really based on the color of their skin as much as it is based on the system having advantages for people with white skin.
When I read things like this, I start having legitimate fears that this country is headed towards a violent and turbulent period.
The Astros are finally winning the WS after oh so long...take this **** to D&D. 50+ years for many of us. .
That's my point. My grandmother uses the term "colored people" which was acceptable in her day. She sent mean any harm by it. Explain to her that there are different terms to use now. The purest way to look at this is to always focus on intent. I don't care if people were offended by what he did. That is their choice to interpret it in that fashion but has no bearing on the essence of the act and whether it was mean spirited or not. If he meant no harm, teach him up. Those that were offended, too bad. Would I be offended if a 2 year old said I was fat? What would be the purpose of getting mad at someone who has the purest of intentions?
So when will the “consequence” for Yuli be dealt? Game is tonight and if they are going to suspend him (which is ridiculous) then wouldn’t that be announced sooner than later?
