Look, I'm not going to play 20 questions and derail this thread like you regularly derail threads. If you want to message me, I'll be glad to respond and answer all of your questions. Then, I will put you on ignore.
Right now all the media talks about is racism, racism, racism, without offering any solutions. Darvish, being victimized by racism, doesn't get angry, but actually offers THE SOLUTION TO RACISM. This is EXACTLY the message we need to spread.
dude didn't even deny. he straight up walked right up to an apology when the outrage happened. That's what I'm saying when I say that a lot of first generation cubans think of it as a more light hearted joking thing. not an excuse, he will learn from it but I definitely don't think it reflects poorly on his character
You've been on here one year, and you're the only one who has ever vouched for him. Excuse me for not caring.
Slanting your eyes to mock a Japanese person is by definition racist. I mean, where do you people come up with this ability to ignore the blatantly obvious? Holy Jesus. If players have been suspended for gay slurs then Yuli should too. I want the Astros to win but this is on Yuli. It's the World god damn Series and you're making slant eyes in the dugout with a Japanese pitcher on the mound? What the ****?
You were the one that derailed this thread. My posts in this thread were about Gurriel’s gesture to Darvish. You derailed this thread by saying, “I don’t have a site where I belong” and accusing me of “not being a Houston sports fan.” That was unnecessary and derailed this thread. I forgive you and let’s just get back to the real topic at hand.
You derailed the thread when you started calling people "admitted racists." Go back and check, you started all of this. If you can't read a post you disagree with without immediately responding with "that person must be a racist," then you should step out before making dumb comments.
Let's make the record straight. You called me racist twice. I reacted to that. And no, I don't forgive you for calling me a racist because you didn't apologize.
It’s Hispanic culture in a nutshell. Racial issues aren’t issues in those countries like they are here. I’m pretty confident he meant no offense to it at all but the media will act quick to crucify him because of everything happening in this country. Was it wrong and distasteful? Yes. He apologized, fine him and move on. PS. If people want to get worked up over it get worked up over the eye gesture. There is NOTHING racist about the word “chinito” no matter how you try to spin it.
No Darvish just assumed it was meant to be racist. I take Yuli at his word that he didn't mean to offend.
Just read through this, didn't know it was a thread until after the game. Here's what I said in the game thread: As far as Gurriel goes, he ****ed up, he'll learn from it. He's newly here from a culture that's not nearly as attuned to racial offensiveness as we are in the States. I've been all around this world and some of the most racist stuff I've ever heard was in Latin America (and Boston/NY). I seriously, seriously doubt there was any malicious intent behind it. Even if he wasn't an Astro, a suspension in the WS would be ludicrous.
You can’t accuse me of not being a Houston sports fan and then reject the facts when receipts are provided that I flew to NYC last week to go to games 3 and 5.
what a dumbass. Houston has some really stupid people. One doing it in the world freaking series and one saying it in the middle of a historic black white controversy while being owner of a majority black team.
Regardless of Yuli's intention, the fact that Darvish is actually trying to diffuse the situation and spread a message of love and understanding is just wonderful.
