That's not gonna happen against the winningest team this season. It's the World Series dude, I'm not sure what you expect besides too close for comfort games. If anything be glad we finally got a road win... now if we can pull off (somehow) three in a row at home.......
So my parents held a watch party, when we went down 3-1 I got pretty upset, had to leave, I just couldnt handle some of my parents friends that wanted to hold conversations while my team was failing. Went home, listening on the radio as we let another inning go by and their elite closer came in. Said **** it and turned it on at home (I almost just went to sleep). I then watched as we scored in 4 straight innings against a bullpen that went 28 scoreless before that. Springer, Altuve, Correa, and Marwin all homered. The Astros got their first ever WS win... AND made my game 5 tickets legitimate. I cannot believe I stayed up, I am so lucky, I would have never forgiven myself. Greatest baseball game I have ever seen, I will never give up on this team. Truly a great memory.

To win your first ever World Series game in that kind of up and down dramatic fashion is just insane.
Agreed. That one might have the slightest of edges just because the stakes were higher. If the Rangers hadn't choked that one away they would have won it all.
Last night was a pretty amazing game but I get the feeling there are more to come. These two teams are showing why they are two best teams in the league. Tough pitching, clutch hitting, brilliant fielding... If you blink things could change.
I don't think overlooked is the right word. Some of us didn't exist yet, hard to view anything as an all time great game if you didn't actually witness it live.
My Dad and I were at that game, basso, and stayed until we won in 24 innings. Freaked my Mom out a bit, since we were hours late and had no cell phones, of course. My father might have made a quick call at some point to tell her what was up, but I can't remember. It was a great game, but this was far beyond that, length be damned. It was an epic victory I'll never forget, come what may. We're on a short vacation in Fredericksburg, 3 nights, and I just wish I'd thought to record this one at home. Buck's comment about watching it again brought that to mind. Probably wouldn't have programmed enough time, though. I've seen some classic Astros games, some great pitching in particular. The Astros have always seemed to find great pitchers, and there have been some tremendous moments over the years, but given the context, the stakes of this game, this has to rank at the most important win in franchise history, in my opinion. Had to ponder that a bit, but that's where I think it ranks. Now we have to take care of business in Houston!
No...I mean the Bruntlett to Everett to Berkman game....that seems particularly forgotten of that on the list... and the national media was so absorbed in the 2004 ALCS that it seemed to completely miss the 7 game series that was being played between the Cardinals and the Astros that was just electric.
Until this postseason the Kent walkoff (Backe dominant start, crazy Beltran catch) was the greatest Astro game ever IMO. We stayed for 22. My great uncles were in from Detroit and they, of course, wanted to see the Dome, and especially the scoreboard go off. Alas, they didn't get to see the scoreboard. My ancient memory tells me that game was a compelling reason why MLB rakes the infield every 5 innings. They used to do it once a game. A bad hop led to the Astros winning that game.
we might have sat near one another- as I recall the 'dome was pretty empty, and got emptier as the night wore on.
There have been plenty of great ones, including the one to end the 1986 NLCS. Some similarities to be had, but we were on the wrong end of it. Games 4/5 of the 2004 ALCS were pretty great. Heck, we got treated to a great game 7 in the WS last year. So many other great game 7s out there (including 91, 97, & 01) from my memory.
I mean I don't really expect it, because losing leads and not being able to close out teams is a constant with Houston sports in general. Yes, we did get the win, but sooner or later, your gonna have to find ways to close the door and not let teams back in it.
I'd be willing to put a pretty penny on the Dodgers fans basically singing the same song on their end. Point blank, we NEEDED a win in LA and got one. Now we MUST take care of business in Houston to close them out.
You'd do well to kill the last remaining brain cells holding on to that crap fest. Man, that was a terrible effing moment.
Game 6 in '86 was the greatest Astros game in the team's history with one tiny, semi-important caveat: they lost. It was still a visceral roller-coaster of a game that had so many incredible highs crashing into so many heartbreaking lows that it literally wiped me out. The tension reached the point of breaking against the backdrop of an absolutely frenzied, starving crowd and this insanely unique shadow of Mike Scott hanging over it. But, again: they lost. Last night is easily the greatest game in franchise history and it's the greatest baseball game I've ever witnessed. It was game 6 in '86 all over again with one notable difference: we won. If the Astros win this series, the clincher is automatically #1, no questions asked. But in terms of drama & excitement, I can't imagine last night ever being topped. It was incredible. AND WE WON! (For the record... and, again, results matter, here're my top 5) 1. '17 WS game 2 2. '17 ALCS game 7 (the significance of clinching a pennant at MMP overrides all other contenders) 3. '86 NLCS game 6 (so good it overcomes the fact we lost) 4. Mike Scott's no-hitter (come on) 5. '04 NLCS game 5 (I can still vividly remember Jeff Kent screaming TWO MORE! as he neared home plate) (BTW, I had forgotten Kent's HR was a 3R shot; gun to my head, I would have died insisting it was a solo shot. Those are just fuzzy details - I remember the feeling like it was yesterday and, man! I walked on air the entire next day.)
