Brown Bag certainly hits the spot for me. But for the Bahn Mi mention above, try Les Grivals. I get 1 shredded chicken and 1 chargrilled meatball. They are like 3-4 bucks each.
Kenny and Ziggy's is the place I hear about all the time. Never been but they get a lot of high marks from what I hear.
I thought there was a differentiation between "subs" and "sandwiches". Subs have to be on a long roll. Not 2 slices of bread. A damn roll. So far, and I can't believe you've never had one, go Vietnam.
They're pretty good. The queso is pretty good too. It's damn noisy in there though. I'm too old for them kids.
Never tried meatball, suddenly craving Les Grivals BIG time. Make sure you go there or one that grills its meats.
Trust me, try it. I had a buddy order it one time when we sat at the bar, and I started laughing and questioning him. He cut it in half and let me try it and it was so amazing. I get it every time now.
Damn it, me too. I'm downtown today so I'm gonna hit the rail to midtown for a Bahn Mi. F@ck a sub sandwich! Les Grivals has little to no tables and they are always way too packed
