Trump is bad bad bad for the country. He isn't normal. He's fking nut. Today GOP is going crazy. Supporters are being so dumbed down. We, as a nation, go through period of getting dumber (see Vietnam war and how the US military lied for years) but never ever at this level. “We must never allow ourselves to lapse into thinking that this is just the way things are now. If we simply become used to this condition, thinking that it is just politics as usual, then heaven help us,” Flake said. “Without fear of the consequences and without consideration of the rules of what is politically safe, we must stop pretending that the conduct of some in our executive branch are normal. They are not normal. Reckless, outrageous and undignified behavior has become excused as telling it like it is when it is actually reckless, outrageous and undignified.” http://www.azcentral.com/story/news...jeff-flake-senate-speech-full-text/794958001/
Flake showing glimpses of being a morally sound republican. The base will hate him for preaching the truth and standing up for what he believes in.
all these gasbag senators who get nothing done posturing as the "last honest man" for the media He and Corker are resigning because they won't win reelection Flake should resign right now, Arizonans don't like him. Instead he'll stick around for a year as a dangerous lame duck, unmoored from accountability to his constituents. His self-righteous preening does nothing to help his constituents or advance the principles he purports to believe in, but it gets him lots of media attention.
Trump's self-righteous preening does everything to help the country though and it definitely advances the notion that he's mentally ill and unfit to do anything but sell ice cream on a street corner, but it gets him lots of media attention.
He was elected. No more like democracy? Wishing your side hold power and have dictatorship power? American really don't like Trump. He isn't likely to win election. Should he resign now?
What about all the "gasbag" non-Senators from both parties who are not up for re-election who have also been blasting The Donald's words and "policy positions"? He's a uniter, not a divider.
Trump should resign right now, Americans don't like him. Instead he'll stick around for 3 year more years as a dangerous buffoon unmoored from accountability to his constituents.
in a democracy elected representatives are accountable to constituents. If hes not running again then he is no longer accountable to his constituents. This would defeat the point of democracy.
What a weird position. Should all elected officials who aren't running again resign? What about ones who are term limited? Isn't it a paradox if they get elected and then can't run again because of term limits? Should they resign instantly after winning? What should Trump do? Should he bother to run again for his next term knowing that he can't run again after that and therefore would be compelled to resign should he win again? And if he doesn't run again because he realizes the conundrum you've laid out, should he resign now? Should ANYONE who runs for election be prepared to say they will stay in that job forever? What do you do about House members who don't want to run again because they are going to run for something else? Should they all resign? What a ridiculous problem.
I'd be okay with that. Especially if their views differ so strongly form their constituents like in Flake's case. I have no idea how the issue should be handled but its undoubtedly a problem. everyone complains about the president in his last 2 years of his 2nd term. Its always an issue. Not a 'weird position' at all
So democracy, in your view, is entirely based on the fact that officials must continually run for office -- your view of democracy only really tolerates career politicians. Interesting take when compared to, for one, the writings of the founding fathers, or, for another, the writings of any sane political thinker in the last 200 years. LOL.
democracy - a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. if you don't answer to the people then how are you a representative? what a radical position to think lame duck politicians or any who answer to nobody are an issue. I bet i'm the first ever to mention it........
Not radical, just flat out stupid. By your logic, no president should serve a second term, and as such, no president should serve a first term. These theoretical platitudes you try to base your arguments around are utterly worthless. Your platform is so black and white, it precludes any form of public policy from being successful, as your arbitrary and broad "rules" prevents anyone from playing.
A senator's job is not solely to be answerable to his/her voters. That's part of it, but a much smaller part compared to a House representative. Consider that every state, regardless of population, has two senators. So if the principal role of a senator is to do the bidding of his electorate, that means people from smaller states are getting highly disproportionate representation. Senators are expected to do their job without being overly tied down by the narrow concerns of their voters.
Corker, McCann, Flake - are all resigning because they stood up to Trump and they will pay the price for that. They are diehard Republicans whom you guys once cheered. Their views and policies are in-line with Ronald Reagan and closely represent his ideals. Yet you bash them and blame the media. When do you come to see that Trump is not good for this country and these guys are standing up to him?
a representative's job is to represent. If a politician feels like his/her views greatly differ from that of the constituency then he/she should resign. justtvyank: what about term limits? me: i dont know how that should be solved but its obviously a problem. Did you hear me call for 2nd term presidents to resign? no? then wtf you talking about?
The opposite of resign would be you saying think they should not resign, which is not what you said. You said you didn't know. The reason you don't know is because your logic is r****ded and cannot be consistently applied, which is why you are receiving so much backlash.
