jack looked back in form from the injury when we played the knicks in preseason. but in any case, demetrius is definitely not anywhere close to being an nba rotation player right now and bobby brown shouldn't even be on an nba roster (although i realize the front office may have no choice on this). if paul really ends up sitting out "at least several weeks" like worrell mentioned at the top of last night's broadcast, i think it's going to end up cost us in playoff seedings come april. morey should have had a competent backup on the roster knowing CP3 and EGO are for sure missing games.
Well the Rockets do have Demetrius Jackson for now. What about Scott Machado? Former Rockets Nick Johnson won a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Is he still in the league?
The games that Paul will miss are against weaker opponents that we should be able to beat without him anyways. I'm with you all though, it sucks not having a more solid back up.
yeah mario chalmers is the one! wanted to google him, but forgot his name. just checked apparently he's with the grizz.
Hes concerned about the playoffs. the whole point of getting cp3 is making hardens burden lighter and now even ego is playing more than he's supposed to
I'd be fine with Aaron Brooks or Beno Udrih signing, both can come in and eat up the 15-20 mins a game we need until Paul returns, and then they would probably both be fine with spot minutes.
we have to play MEM 3 times (once on a b2b at their court) so i doubt we beat them 3 straight times (4 times going back to preseason) with our offense sputtering whenever harden sits. also have a b2b @IND plus UTA/CLE/TOR, so it's definitely not going to be a cakewalk with only harden creating offense.
Cod, zero as in Canaan, or Cameron? Really hoping we re-sign Oliver once his hand heals, I haven't seen any information on him signing elsewhere or even being involved in the G-League draft.
I agree with @Batman Jones. There really is no 4th guard position on this team. The *only* role for a 4th guard is to rest Harden/Paul at the end of blow-outs. Look at the two championships by Detroit with Isiah Thomas, Dumars and Vinnie Johnson. There is nothing more similar to us than that. Two HOF guards and a 3rd scoring machine. And Dumars could play both PG and SG, equally well. First Detroit Ring -- no 4th guard with experience They had no 4th guard with experience for the entire season of their 1st ring. They had a rookie, 48th round pick (Michael Williams) who got 7mpg in 49 games of garbage time. He got 6 minutes total in 17 playoff games. fwiw: Williams ended up having a very solid career, later. Second Detroit Ring -- Gerald Henderson 34yr old Gerald Henderson was 4th guard (who hadn't played for a playoff team for 5 years), and he got the same treatment as the rookie previous year. Like @Batman Jones said, all the league vets knew from the previous ring that they wouldn't play. He wasn't really vet insurance,,,,he just flat out sucked at that age...and the only one who would take the job. 7mpg in 46 games of garbage time. In 20 playoff games, he appeared in only 8 of them, for 19 total minutes. He scored 2 points -- total
With everyone healthy there is no need for a 4th guard at all. They'd just be insurance for injuries and for resting guys during blowouts. Jackson as a project is good enough. The exposure might even mold him into a decent player. He has the physical tools to be decent. For those situations we can actually stagger Gordon and Harden and play Tucker or even Troy Williams as the 2 with E.G.
I'm not sure how some people can't understand this. This imaginary line of quality veteran point guards jumping to sign up for an undefined/unpredictable backup-to-the-backup-to-the-backup role just doesn't exist. Jameer's decision should be a clue that filling that role with a quality rotation player isn't as easy as it might seem. Also, not sure why people keep suggesting AB. He's under contract with the Wolves.
(Don't shoot me, but Mike D'Antoni is REAL cozy with Ty Lawson, and maybe his PG magic can bring something out of him? He actually had decent production with the Kings last year)
I guess I'm the only one that likes what Jackson brings? He plays some good defense for a young player and I'd rather see how much he can grow in CP3s absence than give that spot to a vet. I look at it this way, if he gets better he's at least a good trade chip. If CP3 is going to be out for long stretches of time though then yeah, but if it really isn't that serious I'd rather see what we have in Jackson. He seems to look better with more time given?
