This is the worst terrorist attack in a city and country that has been wracked by violence for decades. I had been hearing that Somalia was making progress but it still had a long way to go and this will set them back.

yes, it's super sad. There had been some progress from what I was hearing.

I think the more progress that is made, the more desperate terrorists are to disrupt and make a stand. High profile attacks will serve to help bolster the numbers at least somewhat.

Al Shabab is up there with DAESH in being horrible. You're probable right that they will do what they can to disrupt the progress made in Mogadishu. In Minnesota there is a large Somali community that has also had to wrestle with Al Shabab recruiting. Many here are very worried about what's going to happen now.

Final death toll hits 512 in Somalia truck bombing in October

The final death toll in October's massive truck bombing in Somalia's capital is 512 people, according to the committee tasked with looking into the country's worst-ever attack.

The final toll is a dramatic increase from previous estimates of more than 350 killed. The committee's report, obtained by the Associated Press, says another 312 people were wounded in the Mogadishu bombing and 62 people remain missing.
