Thats the way i view it too. Being on 2nd is already being in scoring position off most base hits. The only advantage i see for being on 3rd is you could score on a wild pitch or super weak infield hits (and like you said, doesnt matter as much with 2 outs because most weak infield balls are going to end the inning by throwing to 1st anywAy)

 

I was thinking along these lines myself. You saved me the trouble of articulation and the keystrokes To my eyes, what Pettis did was WAY more apt to fail than what Gardner did. Had Altuve been out, especially if the game had been lost as a result, the Pettis call would have appeared significantly more stupid in retrospect.

 

Watch it before they take it down.

 

If Altuve makes it home game is over (even if he gets thrown out we still have the winning run in scoring position), if Gardner gets to third he still likely needs a single. Our gamble had a much greater reward, and less risk.

Chapman completely wiped out Reddick before Altuve's AB, you can't say Marwin would have put the ball in play with any confidence. Under normal circumstances it was a bad send, but given the guy on the mound it was always worth the risk IMO.

 

Not expecting either of the next 2 to be 2-1 type affairs. Stros need the offense to start clicking.
