Love love love it. I was surprised he was not taken last series. I like him over peacock and Morton honestly, I like him (currently) more than McCullers. Love it
I just trust the guy more in the playoffs. I feel like Morton could have easily been shelled but got lucky. Honestly I like all of our starters I just like mchugh better but he might not even get meaningful innings
I'm always back n forth with these 2. I feel like I would ride the hotter hand, McHugh coming in right now would make me kind of shaky. Either way I think these first 2 games will determine the rest of the rotation going forward. Win 2..... Who's game 3 starter? Win 1.... Who's game 3 starter?
McHugh could come in a wide range of spectrum. He could start. He could tandem start in the 4th inning. He could be used in a game down by 10 to eat some innings. He could come in after both teams have used everyone else and it is McHugh vs. Jaime Garcia in extra innings.
That's tough. And then you gotta think about Mcullers as well. Those four guys behind our first two are hard to rank right now. This is a 7 game series though so it won't be as easy as last time as far as managing innings. I'm glad I don't have to make the call but I'm also super glad mchugh is available. Lol maybe make game 3 a peacock/Mcullers combo and game 4 a Morton/mchugh combo depending on wins and losses?
Same thing I was thinking. This all comes down to managing your pitchers, knowing the situation and saving energy for other games. Hinch still scares me with his random moves.
On the ALCS roster in place of Tyler White. I like the move especially with the tradition of managers yanking their starting pitchers within 4 innings so far in these playoffs. You're seeing a LOT of bullpen arms being overworked so far, so the more pitchers you have for that long relief role the better. 12 pitchers in the playoffs may become more of a common thing in the years to come.
I don't mind losing white. But I would have replaced gregerson with mchugh and kept white/kemp. But ya I guess you can't have too many arms
I want Morton starting game 3 with McHugh ready for multiple innings in relief, and I want McCullers starting game 4 with Peacock 1st in from the pen.
Gives us more flexibility to bring Peacock in from the pen. If you don't need to use Peacock, then he can start Game 3 or 4. I'd for the most part plan on limiting McHugh, Peacock, McCullers, and Morton to 3 innings each. Going tandem basically for 6 innings in games 3 and 4.
