Came here to make a comment of how funny it was that we were rumored to trade Bregman for Sale and he was the only one that could hit him yesterday and he did it in game 1 too..

It was thrilling to watch Bregman come up big in the playoffs and the whole season.

Boston did what Houston would not, and that was go all in for Sale.

What was the package they wanted for Sale, something like Bregman, Musgrove or Martes, plus other...

I don't disagree with the first part of this statement.. but it probably is pretty close. This is more of an offseason exercise, but let's take a look. If we arbitrarily set the bar at younger than 29:

    2017 bWAR:
Astros: Altuve, Correa, Springer, Marwin, Bregman = 27.9 bWAR
Yankees: Judge, Severino, Sanchez, Hicks, Didi = 25.1 bWAR
Marlins: Stanton, Ozuna, Yellich, Realmuto, Rojas = 23.1 bWAR
Red Sox: Betts, Sale, Pomeranz, Bradley, Benintendi = 21.9 bWAR
Dodgers: Seager, Taylor, Bellinger, Puig, Wood = 21.2 bWAR
Cubs: Bryant, Rizzo, Contreras, Hendricks, Baez = 20.4 bWAR
Indians: Ramirez, Lindor, Clevinger, Bauer, Allen = 20.2 bWAR
Dbacks: Ray, Godley, Bradley, Walker, Corbin = 19.4 bWAR
Rockies: Arenado, Freeland, Marquez, Gray, Story = 19.2 bWAR
Nationals: Rendon, Harper, Turner, Taylor, Difo = 17.7 bWAR
Brewers: Shaw, Knebel, Davies, Nelson, Santana = 17.1 bWAR

Names in italics = I wouldn't necessarily consider them core players though an argument can certainly be made for a few. For this exercise they've been included.

Did I leave any teams out? Twins don't come close at this point. Surprised by the Marlins. Too bad they're about to be blown up. All they need is Jose Fernandez (RIP).

Yep. To me the job this offseason is to try and extend Marwin to a reasonable contract... other than that, there aren't any major holes to fill (could use a LHRP).

Maybe we should troll him about trading him in the offseason so he can go off in the world series. I don't own twitter so someone go right ahead.

I’m more than happy to say I was wrong on that one. Really stepped up in Correa’s stead in the summer. Hope he has a great series.

Man can't believe we didn't trade this asset when we had the chance.

Bregman once cut in front of me in line at Costco. I backed up a little to leave space when he acted like he was just crossing through, then he just stopped and whipped his cart around and parked in front of me in line. Stayed on the phone and ignored me. And had a cart full of open box electronics from the clearance shelf that he argued about the price of each one. Took forever.

Total dick, trade his ass in the offseason.

I like it. Doing whatever it takes to get an edge. We need players like that.

Bregman is a part of the core now that is going to dominate for the next 5 years hopefully.

Altuve,Correa, Springer and Bregman. That's just one hell of a top 4 in a line up.

Luhnow and the fans already knew this. That's why he was "untouchable" in both the offseason and the trading deadline

So glad Luhnow protected his core group with vigor. Sale could have been had at the cost of Bregman and others. But Luhnow waited and took his time.

Luhnow endured harsh criticism for sticking with the game plan. He finally made the deal in getting Verlander.

And now it's a great position to be in. They still have to earn it, but they are in as good a position as they could be. It won't be easy but they are in the thick of it all... Awesome time to be an Astro fan.
