Surprised looking back that a lot of people questioned Giles for 2 innings. Didn’t think anything of it. Seemed he was groomed for that late in the regular season. Of course I thought bringing Verlander out of the pen was idiotic but that seemed to work out. Goes to show you that nobody really knows anything haha.
Agreed...You have to win when you are there. Period. But the pressure is finally off the franchise and these players. The recent KC loss was really bitter...but this win in Boston should give you confidence to play anywhere. Dont want the easy way out...I DGAF who we have to face...just beat them! Congrats to the Stros' and if there are any Boston fans...thanks for a good series.
yeah i mean giles hasn't really gotten real true work this series, until today. thought 6 outs was more than feasible for him
When you've had such an incredibly successful regular season and are in the playoffs, the only truly acceptable outcome is winning the last game. 3 down...8 to go.
Hinch said they discussed it with him before the game. They anticipated a rain delay during the game so he was going to come in for Morton if they were winning. Once they saw Boston bring in Sale, the Astros felt confident there would not be a rain delay (at least not early) so they brought him in the 5th.
I missed the 8th and most of the 9th because of a damn meeting but re-winded my stream back to catch all the action. Wasn't the same knowing they won already but idgaf!
That broadcast team seemed to be 1 sided in favor of Boston. I was getting tired of the excitement in the voices everytime the Red Sox did literally anything good. ALCS isn't going to be on FS1 again I hope...
At this point even if we win a WS, people will think we did it on spite of Hinch. Same can be said of trusting Giles. It was a call by a manager they think sucks to put in a closer they think sucks, naturally they would hate the choice. I don't think he is a great manager, I think bringing Verlander in mid inning was a huge f**k up, but going to your dominant closer in the 8th inning isn't some crazy call.
Scott Lauber covers the Red Sox for ESPN. I tweeted him after game one because he wrote that Altuve was coming off his FIRST batting title.
Can't lie.. I'm surprised we won after trailing. Thought was -- We CAN win, but will it ACTUALLY happen? Good series. We won without a Game 5, and Tuve made history. I questioned the offense at beginning, but they served. Veterans and younger guys who didn't previously. Nice. Now, the pitching looks troublesome. Quick.. name 2 Astro pitchers who pitched well this series. Some pitched acceptably, but actually, WELL?
I am always of the opinion that every decision a manger makes in a win is the correct one, because no one knows what would have happened otherwise. (Unless he uses an injured player and that player aggravates his injury)
