So strange that Watt and Mercilus were lost for the season on essentially non-impact injuries in the same game. These guys are suppose to be some of the best athletes in the world and just one wrong step or push and they’re out for a season. Man $*ck sports.
Like Mario Williams before him, Mercilus can make a full recovery from this. Also like Mario before him, however, I consider these bizarre pec injuries--where the muscle just seems to tear itself off of bone without a significant external impact to force the joint in an odd direction--a red flag for possible PED use. I can't remember a pectoralis tear happening before a decade ago, but now it seems like I hear about a couple every year. NFL players' muscles are getting too strong for their tendons and ligaments, those the structural parts of their body meant to glue everything together. Natural strength training shouldn't be able to get your body to this point.
Losing Whitney is bigger than losing JJ, imo. But Whit can return to form, while JJ may not return at all.
Losing Merc bothers me more so than losing Watt. Merc was a big part of that #1 defense last season. I hope someone on the current roster can at least be half of what he was. I'm betting on Scarlett and /or Cole .
Mercilus is a guy that's confident that he has a long career left. Watt knows his career is basically on the line. One more season ending injury next season and needs to just retire
From a professional stand point it is eerily similar to Tiger Woods(Not personal life obviously). For a temporary time he looks like the absolute GOAT and then bam. Injury after injury. Lets hope Watt turns it around. Then again, I think Tiger is still the GOAT. Longevity be damned.
