Japan is an example of a nation that gets it when it comes to having control of its country, especially when it comes to contraband and immigration.

We need to look past the petty squabbles and childish name calling, and do what is right for our country - not what others think would be best for our country.

    Lol... cleverly disguised xenophobic thread....

Do the xenophobes even understand how different American culture is than Japan.... If you thought America was a nanny state....

Let me guess.... OP wants to curtail immigration while not maintaining Japan's nanny state and assumes it will work... homogeneity = safety if you act like the Japanese.

What would Japan be today if not for Ceylon's speech during the San Francisco Peace Treaty ?

    Ceylon's defense of Japan[edit]
A major player in providing support for a post-war free Japan was the delegation from Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka).[14] While many were reluctant to allow a free Japan capable of aggressive action and insisted that the terms of surrender should be rigidly enforced in an attempt to break the spirit of the Japanese nation, the Ceylonese Finance Minister J.R. Jayawardene spoke in defence of a free Japan and informed the conference of Ceylon's refusal to accept the payment of reparations that would harm Japan's economy. His reason was "We in Ceylon were fortunate that we were not invaded, but the damage caused by air raids, by the stationing of enormous armies under the South-East Asia Command, and by the slaughter-tapping of one of our main commodities, rubber, when we were the only producer of natural rubber for the Allies, entitles us to ask that the damage so caused should be repaired. We do not intend to do so for we believe in the words of the Great Teacher [Buddha] whose message has ennobled the lives of countless millions in Asia, that 'hatred ceases not by hatred but by love'." He ended the same speech by saying

This treaty is as magnanimous as it is just to a defeated foe. We extend to Japan the hand of friendship and trust that with the closing of this chapter in the history of man, the last page of which we write today, and with the beginning of the new one, the first page of which we dictate tomorrow, her people and ours may march together to enjoy the full dignity of human life in peace and prosperity.[15][16]

Minister Jayewardene's speech was received with resounding applause. Afterwards the New York Times stated, "The voice of free Asia, eloquent, melancholy and still strong with the lilt of an Oxford accent, dominated the Japanese peace treaty conference today."[17]

    Haitori Edict.

They do allow some firearms for sporting purposes, but apparently the restrictions and licensing is done in a very thorough Japanese kind of way.

Funny OP didn't mention any of that.

The entire continent of Antarctica has never had a reported gun death in the history of the planet, we should be like them.

    I'll play!

Japan doesn't have a border wall, why should the US need one?

Exactly! The solution is so simple, turn the US into an island by digging giant trenches across the borders with Mexico and Canada 120 miles wide and 300 feet deep just like the Korea Strait.....and put ninjas, alligators, sharks or whatever in there. Problem solved and no wall.

Sounds like you are replacing the American Bill of Rights with a large scale nanny state.... I mean hey... individualism isn't for everyone.

Japan would still very few shooting related crimes if you armed everyone with guns. In fact I think suicide rate would probably go up

I'm not going to stereotype a country, but let's just say a lot of things Japanese people do is based on hundreds of years of traditional culture and customs, it has its positives and negatives. It's just so different from the US it's not really worth comparing social data especially ones related to crime.

Exactly. Things Japan does not have:

    Guns
    Cultural Diversity
    College Football
    A Wall

I figure once America does away with those things, we can start to compare the 2.

I expected a Bobby reply, but it was terrible even for his extremely low standards. Only thing he could add is Japan being a terrible authoritarian dictatorship without real freedom.

The article doesn't talk about gun violence as much as it talks about not having much of ANY crime in japan and japanese policemen having nothing to do.
Well, if perhaps you started taking serious the stalking, bullying, harassing against females, misogynism and racism that plagues your society you would have something to do.

Instead of choosing to discuss the aspects of Japanese sovereignty that have lead to its low violence rate, I see CF fans has fell into the trap of petty squabbling and name calling - yet again.
