    If he's going to be jittery, pitching in an 8-1 game isn't going to approximate pitching in a save situation in a close out game at Fenway, IMO.

    He's never pitched in the postseason. Closing out a 7-run game in front of a crazy loud home crowd is a good time to get his feet wet.

    And they have a day off. What exactly do you think the downside is?

    I'm not sure which is worse: the Hyundai Sweet Caroline Monstrosity, or looking at Fat Frank Thomas and his Gigantic Cranium ("NEVER USED PEDS!!!") hocking limpdick pills.
