Great year for the Twins. From nothing to the post season, though they were right there behind us in 2015.

Listening to 790 this morning and they had Berkman on. Caller asked Berkman about start times and what most players prefer. Berkman said that most players actually prefer 1pm Playoff games to 7/8pm playoff games. Said that you don't have to wait around all day for the game to start with all the emotion and anxiety building up. Said for a 1pm start you're able to wake up, get your breakfast, get to the ballpark, get ready, take BP and you're ready to start the game instead of sitting around all day. He said most players absolutely do not like 3pm starts. Fortunately we don't have to deal with it here in Houston because of the retractable roof, but the shadows of the mid-day to late afternoon sun play a huge factor for batters. For some reason the MLB creates a 3pm slot for playoff games even though teams never play games at 3pm local time during the regular season. Thought it was overall an interesting perspective from an All-time great Astro.

Sorry if this question has been asked, but I'm trying to get a solid answer for those of us stuck in offices:

Is this game only airing on MLB TV and not FS1? Is it available on ESPN Radio? If not, it looks like I'm going to have to sign up for a Playstation Vue trial just to have this game going in any way, shape or form.

    Just MLBN.

Not sure about radio coverage... but I believe ESPN radio does cover the baseball playoffs. Locally, it will be 94.1.

I believe I saw that DirecTV Now is offering a trial week or something for those looking to watch on a mobile.

    This helps a lot.

Just realized that comcast no longer has MLBN as one of their on-the-go channels.

So, there is no local Houston station that is showing the game? That’s ludicrous.

Not surprising... Fox shows only a handful of games now, while Astros games haven’t been regularly on. Local TV since the early 00’s? Also, Fox won’t have a game till the WS (unless the Yankees are in the ALCS).

NBA playoff games are almost exclusively on cable now.

What "local" Twin Cities station showed the WC game?

At least it was on ESPN.....but it is ludicrous they can't show it on their typical station (FSN) or the local channel some of their games are on. They tend to do it with football games on cable. Not sure why they don't with baseball.

Yep. I have MLB Network, but still think it's a joke. How can you not show these games to the masses?

Because football games are normally on network TV.

MLBN and FS1 are going to be carrying playoff games for the forseeable future... much like NBATV and TBS/TNT cover NBA ones. At one point, cable sports covering playoff games was considered blasphemy... now its the norm in every sport but the NFL.

They used to... not enough people watched for networks to make the investment.

Sports has been moving more and more to cable for 20+ years. Only a matter of time before the NBA finals and World Series do as well.

    Yep.

This year, Fox has chosen to not air MLB games on their network till the World Series (unless the Yankees are in the ALCS). They'd rather have the likes of shows like the Orville and Ghosted than MLB division or LCS games.

The NFL specifically has stipulations for local teams (presuming there is no sellout blackout) that all games are available on over the air networks... even ones exclusively on cable. None of the other leagues have that.

My point was that Fox airs regular season games as I thought your point was about NFL games being on network TV. When NFL games are on NFL network or ESPN , they tend to also air on an affiliated network station in the home and visitor markets so those without cable or a certain cable package can view them.

Not sure why MLB can't arrange for Fox (since they carry regular season MLB games) or another local station to simulcast the MLB network games in the home and visitor market. I am sure the Astros/Red Sox games yesterday and today would dwarf the normal ratings for those time slots.
