Parking lot deals are actually totally legal in Texas.

BTW, I don't know specifics about that bumpfire stock, but I've seen tons of announcements for similar devices, but when it comes time to go to retail, the ATF usually shuts them down. Circumventing automatic fire laws is illegal.

Thanks for that find -- really creepy. I know schizophrenia and bipolar disorder have strong genetic links (as does depression), but I have never heard that about psychopathy. Maybe there are just so few (or so few diagnosed and treated), that we just don't know yet.

Welp, apparently there is growing evidence of genetic link:

I know. The things that get sold are often not.

Phone auto correct. Apparently my phone thinks ATF is a sexually transmitted disease.

There is a strong genetic link but there is a 'nurture requirement. Without properly neglectful/abusive treatment, the brain develops normally.

I don't know if there are more "bad people" in America than other developed places in the world... but there are more prisoners in America than any other countries in the world. Not only does the USA have by far the most total prisoners, it also has the highest incarceration rate. These numbers are three to four to five times or MORE to that of Europe and Asia. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/uk/06/prisons/html/nn2page1.stm

In fact, according to the link you posted, the USA has a murder rate double to quadruple that of the European, Asian countries as well as canada, australia and many others.

I'd stop selling certain things, for starters. And regulate the hell out of who can possess them.

After that: buyback programs have been shown to be effective.

Haven’t read through this thread but it’s beyond time we demand sensible gun control in this country. The fact that one person can accumulate an arsenal with few questions being asked is a sever flaw in our system. You need hang your hat on the 2nd amendment all you want but enough is enough. We shouldn’t be beholden to the gun lobby and the NRA any longer. Do something.

How many times I’ve scoured Craigslist for something to find someone willing to trade an item for a “pop pop” or a “bang bang”.

I don’t want to snark about gun control or anything. It just needs to happen. Parking lot sales and Craigslist sales need to be outlawed. Gun shows limited.

If you are anti gun control please let me know why you think things are fine the way they are.

The "facts" of this case do not add up. Given the death toll and the number of injured, I would expect a shooter with extensive training. This was a highly planned and executed event; not the work of "gambler" with limited firearms experience. The choice of location, the use of an automatic weapon which are not all easy to convert, and the skill level just doesn't seem plausible. The missing girlfriend that has been "determined to have not been involved" doesn't add up either. The horrific nature of the event and the untold human sufferring is hard to imagine, but as to "why and how", much is missing. For one, a motive. People who "snap" don't plan and excecute like this. I am saddened and baffled.

The tape confirms automatic fire; it is a distinctive sound.

How can you tell the difference between a full auto and a modified semi like the one in the video I posted a page back?

Serious question. I'm not a gun person so I have no idea, but that gun in the YouTube video sure sounds automatic to me.

Schizo can have a genetic component, but to say that because someone's parents were psychopaths they are-- is a GROSS GROSS reach. And psychopath is a general term for crazy, schizo is a specific disease.

A situation where someone has schizo and their parents did you could say maybe it played a role--yes a role--, and that's about it. But to form a causal relationship because of that is pretty crazy (no pun intended). Coming from medicine, and I don't want to say it...but bringing up that example shows a pretty desperate reach for mental illness as being the case for this heinous crime. We don't know what his motives are, but I'll repeat, forming any sort of relationship like that atm is grounded in fiction. Not surprising that a certain poster that forms links about a *certain* religion would post such a thing.

Everything I have learned so far has shown that this POS planned, calculated and executed this crime from 2 different vantage points for several days(maybe much much earlier). There is so much to this story that we just dont know as of yet(unverified claims that ISIS has claimed responsibility).. What we do know is that 59+ people are dead, 500+ injured/hurt...And this degenerate targeted 20,000 folks. Mental illness alone can NOT explain this premeditated execution of innocent people. Additionally, it would be IMPOSSIBLE for the people closest to him NOT to notice erratic behavior. I am certain that it may take a long time to accumulate all these high powered weapons, most of which are illegal...so a psychotic break alone CANNOT explain this homicidal act in the guys 60's. The coward shot from the 30th floor of a building towards a large group of people apparently with a close vantage point...Why target a country music event? What about his crazy amount of spending that he did as per media reports???

SO many questions...I pray for the souls of the people who lost their lives... All they wanted to do was just enjoy themselves, and now their families lives have forever changed. Time may give us some clues, but this wont change that innocent people died at the hands of a coward. May his soul rot in hell...

He shot like a 1000 bullets, 5 or 6% of them killed someone. It doesn't seem too far fetched.

    Yup.

Good points, regarding I.S. they claim responsibility after every attack. They are basically at the pinnacle of cowardice and deceit. The FBI ruled them out pretty confidently early on. Those pieces of **** shouldn't get any unneeded attention, all they deserve is the noose that has been waiting for them.

Did any member of this guy's community notice anything off about him in the months and days leading up to the shooting? Did any of them report him to the police?

Also, what exactly is the use of a civilian having a full-auto military-type rifle? Are they necessary, or even that useful, in a self-defense scenario?

I would assume that that is exactly what the police are trying to find out right now.

    This.

Also looking at the video, particularly this one..
He's shooting into a huge mass of people all packed together. He may or may no be a trained marksmen or soldier, but shooting into that crowd from an elevated position is literally easier than shooting fishes in a barrel.

The fact that he positioned himself up there as well as his 16+ rifle arsenal does however show some detailed planning and crazy premeditation. Pretty nuts and scary.
