LAS McCarran is right next door to the strip and not only that is a next door neighbor of Mandalay Bay. To stress the point even further, the concert venue is an empty parking lot adjacent to the airport. Literally the concert stage is like 2,000 ft from the terminal and runways. Plane either makes no sense at all or makes perfect sense. I can't decide but I want to believe that an unidentified plane entering restricted airport space doesn't even get close before it's shot down.

I mean, it's almost certain to have done so though. Sure there are some factors that would change the lethality a bit, but there's not many scenarios where the plane isn't the more deadly option than spraying in the direction of a crowd with fully automatic gunfire from over 1000 feet away

Adding to this, let's say for the sake of conversation that the bullets were traveling 350 yards and he was using a 55 grain .223 round fired from an ar-15 style rifle.....that would mean there would be a more than 20 inch drop on the round by the time it hit the target and would have lost nearly half of it's velocity and nearly 1000 foot pounds of energy by the time it got there.....and it would have taken nearly half a second to hit.

In short, it's not that great of a plan.

i was thinking the 35th floor was a "terrible" idea and likely saved hundreds. thank goodness he was stupid.

One day someone (perhaps several people) will be smart enough to kill 1000's. Obviously 9/11 is an example. Something will be replicated like that eventually.

Not that stupid, he evaded all security measures that way and was far away from police.

yea understood but point is, might have been much worse if he was floor 3 to 8 or something like that. now that i think about it, not sure they even have "rooms" on the lower floors.

He pulled off the worst mass shooting in history. He killed 50 people and injured like 400 others. The scale dwarfs most events like this. His "plan" allowed him to do that without worrying about cops for a pretty good amount of time.

I'm not sure there is much to mock him for here. Sadly his plan worked out pretty well with what he wanted to accomplish.

If he was on a lower floor the bullets likely wouldn't have made it over the fence/outer perimeter of the festival or would have gone screaming over the crowd entirely.

I remember walking by that area on my way to Mandalay Bay last year.

That high vantage point let him spray bullets down like a garden hose.

    No aiming needed.

Agreed, he was able to fire off for 5 minutes and reload several times without intervention. I'd say his plan worked.
There could have been more casualties per shot if he was lower but most likely would have been found sooner no?

As tragedy unfolded in Las Vegas, residents and tourists rushed to the aid of more than 400 victims, wounded as a gunman opened fire on a country music festival Sunday night.

A couple driving by the scene caught dramatic footage of concertgoers lying on Las Vegas Boulevard, and pulled over to put the injured in the bed of their truck. They took several people to area hospitals, as Las Vegas emergency personnel struggled with the overwhelming number of killed and wounded.

That wasn't the only act of heroism, amidst an incredible tragedy. As shots rained down on country music fans attending the Route 91 music festival, off duty police officers in the crowd did their best to shepherd fans to safety, even using their bodies as shields. One woman described an off-duty officer's heroism to CBS News.

One father told media that he threw himself on top of his children to protect them from the shooter.

As details of the shooting emerged — including the number of wounded at area hospitals — Las Vegas residents and tourists in town on vacation engaged in more everyday heroism, lining up around the block at area Red Cross and blood donation centers.

Here's a higher floor photo (roughly shooter's angle) from today, really not sure he could've shot that well when on a significantly lower floor. And I think that image is zoomed in a bit already.
    Spoilered for size:

I am waiting on more info.
I feel a need to get a legit motive.
A paper trail of gun purchase or something

I wonder how long he was dead before they charged in....... since last I heard it as suicide

Well.....people in the crowd could carry guns, then they would have stop him.........
Well....even the guy had just knives......he still could have killed and wounded from the 32nd floor......

Are those the excuses against gun control?
