What weapons was he using though? I didn't know that we knew that yet. I know that if he was using a standard AR type rifle they fire a .223 round that is potentially still fatal at ridiculous ranges like 900 yards....but hitting something at that range is really difficult unless you were just randomly shooting into a dense crowd.

Okay, thanks everyone. I'd never thought of the mass panic and the effect that can have. :-(

Also, I had not even heard it confirmed that it was automatic (or made to essentially be automatic), but it must have been. Survivors mention a pop-pop-pop and they made it sound more like semi-automatic. I know it may sound crass for me to be down in the weeds, but it matters in the big picture of public policy.

    Lord have mercy on us.

There are videos where the shots are audible and they are definitely automatic or modified to be automatic.

Well what's weird about it being fully automatic, if that proves to be the case (and from what it sounded like, I can't imagine it not being fully automatic), it means either he had the weapons illegally or that he had a federal firearms license which is expensive to get and a real pain in the ass. Now, from what I understand, he had money and plenty of time on his hands, so maybe he got the weapons legitimately, but that would only complicate issues.

Also, if he was planning on doing this and killing people, why wouldn't he have just crashed one of his planes into the event? Surely that would have caused even more casualties.

Not a lot about this makes sense.

I've said this before but if the average person knew the kind of fire power that is available and the amount of weapons and ammo that people are amassing they would be terrified and rightfully so.

Is it really that expensive or that big of a pain in the ass? This is pro-gun site that makes it seem not that arduous. https://www.thegunwriter.com/14837/how-to-buy-a-machine-gun/

My understanding is that there is an extensive background check, fees, and registration that you'd have to go through in order to be able to buy class 3 weapons.

Automatic weapons are expensive, usually a couple grand at least, and there is a long wait time due to background checks, 6-9 months. There's a special tax to be paid, $200, as well plus you need a gun trust set up which can be another couple hundred dollars. I think you also have to have the gun trust name engraved somewhere on your weapon.

All of that as opposed to about 15 minutes in and out at a store to buy a semi-automatic rifle for $400-$1200 or so depending on the brand/quality.

Auto weapons are a lot more expensive and take a lot longer to get so it is a hassle.

How do you get 19 weapons into a hotel room without someone catching on? "Wow, that guy sure does have a LOT of heavy luggage. That's like the fifth trip to his white panel van he's made so far, and it looks like the weight is incredible."

On peak check in hours in Vegas hotels, there's a ton of people carrying luggage/bags all over the lobby. It's a huge cluster **** of people and you would never get stopped.

What's the porter going to say? It's his Constitutional right to bring his arsenal to his hotel room.

Housekeepers who cleaned gunman's room before shooting "saw no signs of anything"
Nevada Rep. Dina Titus told CNN that housekeepers had visited the shooter’s hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and “saw no signs of anything."

Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock had been staying in a hotel suite since Thursday, she said. Paddock, she said, had at least 10 long rifles and hammers in the room.

“It was pretty well hidden,” Titus said. “Just hard to ever image or anticipate it."

I know this sounds like one of those movies, but was he framed? Did the shooter(s) kill him and make it look like he did it?
I guess the investigations and the video tape should answer these questions

If some dudes sitting 19 guns deep in a room I would imagine he would put the do not disturb sign up. Or maybe he brought it up later
