Democratic interference from one party against others in the same nation is nothing new. I've actually looked for examples of foreign adversaries carrying out the kind of espionage done that the Russians attempted against the U.S. I'll happily read an example if you have one to provide.

I know the U.S. did attempt to influence an Italian election in 1948 and were probably successful. But I haven't seen anything recently.

    You're intentionally being ignorant.

We invade other nations for no reason. The CIA is always working to overthrow regimes if it serves the self interest (greed) of our country. We go around policing the world. We bully other nations into doing what we want.

All you can say is 'but but but we didnt meddling in an election because there is no proof'.

Do you honestly think over throwing governments is less of an offense than buying a few dozen thousands worth of ads on facebook and exposing the corrupt behavior of the DNC?

We do do nasty things (mostly for good reason that goes horribly wrong), but that doesn't mean we should allow nasty things done to us. Some of our government highest responsible is security to it's people and to protect our way of self govern (allow no outside influence). Some of you seem to think we shouldn't at all care about self govern because of our past actions.

'lol' We do nasty things for good reasons that go horribly wrong? That is hilarious. Complete oxymoron. I can't go on with this.

We do care about what other nations do to us. Some of us just do not give a **** if a party's corrupt behavior gets exposed at the expense of an alleged third party. And if a bunch of foreign trolls spend a hundred thousand on false ads on a social media site and one really believes it made a difference ... all i have to say is maybe they should have advised the last dozen elections on how to property smear a candidate...because a 100,000 is a pretty damn good bargain compared to the 1.4 billion spent.

There are many topics I care about. I care that the media colludes with party leaders. I care when politicians, elected or not, subvert laws to hide their shady behavior by using private communications. I care when these same people disregard national security measures. I care about all manners of corruption and ineptitude's, regardless of party. Some of you should be more concerned with your partys future leaders than the ones we are stuck with for the next 3 years.

We dropped the a-bomb for good reason that is extremely nasty. We held up the leader of Vietnam and fought with them for stopping the spread of communism that went horribly wrong. We favor a leader over the elected Iranian one for oil (yes that's a good reason) and the lasting effect have been horrible relationship between our two nation... And so on.

This is a pattern of your. Because someone strongly care about what the Russian government did and continue to do doesn't mean they don't give a fk about all the other internal issue. That has been repeated a thousand times and you keep on insisting that's not the case. It's simply ridiculous.

I know and have criticized the U.S. for trying to overthrow other nation's leaders. But that is still different than interfering in a democratic election. Overthrowing brutal dictators who have seized power is different than trying to change the will of a nation's population through espionage attacks.

This show the long patient game they are playing.

NPR has reviewed information connected with the investigation and found 48 such accounts. They have names such as @ElPasoTopNews, @MilwaukeeVoice, @CamdenCityNews and @Seattle_Post.

"A not-insignificant amount of those had some sort of variation on what appeared to be a homegrown local news site," said Bret Schafer, a social media analyst for the Alliance for Securing Democracy, which tracks Russian influence operations and first noticed this trend.

Another example: The Internet Research Agency created an account that looks like it is the Chicago Daily News. That newspaper shuttered in 1978.

The Internet Research Agency-linked account was created in May 2014, and for years, it just posted local headlines, accumulating some 19,000 followers by July 2016.

Another twist: These accounts apparently never spread misinformation. In fact, they posted real local news, serving as sleeper accounts building trust and readership for some future, unforeseen effort.

"They set them up for a reason. And if at any given moment, they wanted to operationalize this network of what seemed to be local American news handles, they can significantly influence the narrative on a breaking news story," Schafer told NPR. "But now instead of just showing up online and flooding it with news sites, they have these accounts with two years of credible history."

Twitter caught these Internet Research Agency accounts in the act and suspended them.
