Minus Kevin Johnson he's pretty much money in the 1st round. Not defending him but he's not as terrible as ppl think.
Anyone can nail first round picks. I think we'd all pretty much agree he's done well there. Where you make your money as a good GM is in the second, third, and fourth rounds. He's consistently blown picks in those rounds, that's why we don't have quality depth especially on offense. I love Watson so far but I'm not ready to Rick a pass. This years draft looks like it might shape up to be the best in a while though.
Might be time for Smith to go, but I disagree that he's been some sort of disaster. His biggest bugaboo was never getting us a QB, other than Schaub I suppose. We've consistently had a talented roster, he's hit on blue chip talent at a rate that would make make a decent number of others jealous, and his street FA game has been pretty stellar. It's a QB league, and that's why we haven't been winning enough, IMO
lol Look around the league. First Round picks aren't being nailed at this consistency. Pick any year and look through the draft picks. You'll see a number head scratchers.
Why don't you take a look at every other nfl team and tell me how many first rounders they've nailed over the last 10 years. Also, although we've failed in the mid rounds, we've excelled in the late rounds and UDFA market. That all counts. If you look at Rick Smith in the drafting department, he's easily top half, if not top third of the NFL. His FA signings and cap management (earlier) have been his weak link. You dont go 9-7 in the NFL for 3 straight years with a clueless head coach and a clueless GM...one of them has to be doing something right.
Grading every NFL team's draft performance over the last 5 years http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/04/nfl...s-best-drafting-teams-picks-classes-2012-2016 Y'all can defend Rick all you want, IMO he's a mediocre GM. Like I said, this years class looks promising and Watson looks like he could be great but Rick has made a lot of mistakes along the way.
That might be the dumbest grading scale I've ever seen...it has Jared Crick as one of our most valuable picks and Clowney as one of our least valuable picks. Lol, what a joke...completely kills any argument you're trying to make.
He got an $8 million signing bonus.........For the cap, that number is actually spread out over 4 years. So, his cap number is $2+ million for this year.
I think I saw something where we are the only team to retain all of our first rounders since 2008? He misses 2nd-4th mostly when he does miss but he finds the UDFAs and late round gems to help our team
He's pretty much money throughout the whole draft. People are just upset over past failures that every good team goes through on their way to becoming great. What we have been seeing over the past few seasons is a team that is almost there and still looking. I think Rick nailed it in this past draft. The finishing touches.
never seen him play but I will say he has already made JJ Fatt obsolete Eggball Texans need this dude and clown dude more than Fatt @Fulgore
Will you pay me? That too handsomely? That's the only way I am ever putting up an eggball game on my TV. I can watch McD and Wenedy commercials on youtube if I want to. That's basically what an eggball game boils down to. You know it.
No way FTW. Football ratings are still king even with all the trump supporters refusing to watch recently
