I dont think people realize that there is a specific demographic that these bots influence in a significant way. It's old people. In the past few years, there has been a proliferation of elderlies finally adopting the smartphone fad primarily because even the budget end devices are full smartphones. There has been an influx of elderly who just started dipping their toes in the rabbit hole that is the internet, something that us younglings have been raised in thus we have a better time understanding between genuine content vs ads/propaganda.

Coinsidently, that elderly demo is also the most likely to go out and vote.

My mom isn't really elderly but she's in her late 50s and just started adopting the smartphone train like 2 years ago. Before that she had hardly any experience with the internet. So it's an overwhelming influx of knowledge that she is trying to sort out. I taught her how to use Chromecast and now she watches a lot of nutritional videos on YouTube. Last week I caught her watching a paid content 'nutritional video' trying to sell a junk pill. I told her that's just an ad. You and I having years of experience with the internet, understand and can distinguish between obvious propaganda/ads and genuine content. Most of the elderly cannot.

Facebook specifically was targeted by Russian spam against Hillary and Facebook is one of the most popular destinations for the elderly. It's perfect for them because the elderly love family and Facebook is one of the best ways to keep in touch with distant family.

It's entirely credible that these bots had some tangible influence in the election.

 

When they set their propaganda strategy, they already understood the political landscape and what lever there already existed to pull on. The Republican Party had been building a narrative of why to distrust Hillary since the '90s. It's easy as anything to just pick that up and keep running with it. I will not be surprised to discover they do the same thing to magnify liberals' worst fears about Trump.

Well, that's not the reason this is probably a non-story, the reason it's almost certainly a non-story is that unless classified information was sent or received via those private emails then it's just a minor procedural issue. Now if they find that he transmitted or received classified information with that private e-mail, by all means string him up.

-Kushner has access to classified information through his security clearance. It doesn't matter who has "more".
-Kushner doesn't have a made up title because he is the sun in law. "Senior Advisor to the President" is a very real and exclusive title.


I agree that this really comes down to what he was talking about in these emails and what was the intent. Was it people not thinking and emailing his personal account and he was responding? Or was it discussing things that they specifically did not want in a government record.

I wonder what account he was using? At least Hilary's server was physically located inside her rich person house that no one was going to be able to break into.
