It's up to a private employers to decide if they want to fire an employee for making a political statement, not the president. The NFL decided they don't want to.

The president has the power of the bully pulpit. His words aren't just 'opinions'. He's the most powerful man on the planet. Him telling private employers whom to fire based on the employee expressing a political opinion would make any founding father cringe.

You stated that it takes a special kind of person to join a profession where everyone hates them.

And I refused that specific point. No, they join a profession where in their circle of peers, family and culture they were raised in, their profession is worshiped.

I'd kneel alongside them if it didn't involve getting escorted out by security.

I don't really see it as disrespecting the flag. There's a problem in America and they're trying to get you to look to the problem.
Step 1 is to acknowledge that there is a problem

This mass protest was borne from the President making his comments about firing people for using their freedom of speech.
And before you tug on that string, I am aware it's not freedom without repercussions. But let's say President Obama, whilst in office, said anyone with a gun should be fired. Suddenly, a whole different demographic is up in arms and protesting. We are talking about the assault on your constitutional rights. Even the one that says you can't kill an enemy soldier in your home. They all matter.

My peeve about all of this is the hypocrite. Debated the subject at work with a lady who says it's disrespectful to our soldiers and the country. This is the same b**** who wanted Texas to secede from the union a few years back. My head nearly exploded from this one's audacity.

Stay classy people. Debate is healthy.

He has the right to his opinions too. Everyone knows that he doesn't make laws and everyone knows that what he said isn't the law of the land. He stated his opinion and any right minded person knows that is exactly what it was, his opinion.

If his words were not just opinions then people would listen to other things he says. The people who listen to his opinions already had those opinions to being with.

I just hope the next time you go to any business establishment the person you are dealing with begins to spout their political views while you are trying to do business. Cashier the grocery store decides to tell you what they think about their political views.

He's the President of the United States. He has a right to his opinion but his opinion holds significantly more clout than you and I and his opnion as the HEAD OF STATE of this nation is often understood as the opinion of the US federal government.

And the opinion of the US federal government currently is that employees ought be fired by employers for exercising their first amendment rights.

It's as if the Presidency doesn't matter anymore. I guess Donald is helping with that notion though.

You ain't winning this argument. You can't equate the President's opinion and clout to that of a normal citizen.

We should strive for a president of this country whos' ideals reflect the bill of rights. Trump's ideals obviously don't. Sorry that I have a higher bar for the Presidency than you do.

Again, you will never understand the concept of practicing your first amendment right to not be prosecuted by the government versus doing so on their employers dime. It is not against the constitution for an employer to fire someone for doing so but you already know this.

    You are seriously dumb.

You are exactly right. It is within the rights of the private employers to fire someone based on protesting during work hours.

The private employers in this case are not only allowing it but embracing it.

The PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES who isn't the private employer, and is the head of the the executive branch of the federal government is lambasting a private employer for exercising their rights to not fire their employees for exercising their first amendment rights.

I think you might be also not to understand that he's attacking a premise that isn't even up for debate here. In other words he's beating the crap out of a strawman.

What are you referring to? Are you referring to the President not having a right choice?
