Makes me think of the Letter from a Birmingham Jail:

It's 55 years later, and the issue is the same. "We believe in civil rights for black people, but a football game isn't the right place, during the anthem is not the right time. Why do you have to cause so much disorder?"

Copied and pasted from someone else's FB post:

Something worth noting, that many people don't seem to know:

In the early 80s, a new football league was formed, the United States Football League. One of its architects and owners was Donald J. trump. His biggest success was luring Herschel Walker (at the time, college football's greatest player) to leave Georgia early and sign on with his New Jersey Generals team. Walker's signing shone a momentary spotlight onto the USFL, but it was short lived. Their product was sub-par and fans tuned out.

The league floundered; it only lasted three years. trump tried to use whatever leverage his Walker contract gave him and muscle his way into the NFL. trump tried to force them into giving his Generals team a franchise - he wanted to play in the Big League. NFL owners rebuffed his advances, they did not like him or his dishonest, underhanded ways. It is a very exclusive club and they denied Donald trump membership.

Don audibled on the play and changed his game plan. He turned to the courts. trump filed an anti-trust lawsuit against the owners, saying they had conspired against him and the USFL. He sought damages of $567 million, which would have been tripled to $1.7 billion under antitrust law (it's worth noting, many of trump's fellow USFL owners couldn't stand him).

trump won the lawsuit. The courts ruled in his favor, except they amended his damage claim. trump was awarded judgement of one dollar. Of course, under anti-trust statutes, that was tripled to three dollars. So, the NFL cut a check to Donald J trump for $3. He cashed it.

Prior to this weekend the Kaepernick Kneel was practiced by about a dozen players league-wide. Now, it has engulfed the entire league. A firm division has been drawn; people on the field, in the stands, and on tv have been forced to choose sides. Anger has been stoked to rage, and trump has smugly placed himself in the middle of it all - he has made it about him. Mission Accomplished.

You might find yourself drawn into it, but remember this - all this vitriolic ****-stirring and flag-humping aimed at professional football is the vindictive act of a petulant, fit-throwing twelve-year old child who didn't get his way in 1985

Trevor Noah seems to think they are protesting police shootings. I guess he is being willfully ignorant too.

The easy answer to the question is "When you have a valid reason to protest"

When it's just a situation of sheep being upset at the shepard for being mean to the wolves, it's not a valid reason to protest.....and in fact it is incredibly stupid to do so.

I like Kaepernick as a player. I dont agree with the protest because i dont believe police brutality is really a problem.

That being said Kaepernick's worst issue is ge started this in the middle of a severe performance decline. Front offices are well within reason to wonder where his head is

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/10/15/colin-kaepernick-files-greivance-owner-collusion-cba

Kaepernick has hired attorney Mark Geragos, who has represented high profile clients including Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder and NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield. Geragos issued the following statement:

"We can confirm that this morning we filed a grievance under the CBA on behalf of Colin Kaepernick. This was done only after pursuing every possible avenue with all NFL teams and their executives.

If the NFL (as well as all professional sports leagues) is to remain a meritocracy, then principled and peaceful political protest -- which the owners themselves made great theater imitating weeks ago -- should not be punished and athletes should not be denied employment based on partisan political provocation by the Executive Branch of our government. Such a precedent threatens all patriotic Americans and harkens back to our darkest days as a nation. Protecting all athletes from such collusive conduct is what compelled Mr. Kaepernick to file his grievance.

Colin Kaepernick's goal has always been, and remains, to be simply be treated fairly by the league he performed at the highest level for and to return to the football playing field."

One of my issues during this whole episode is Kaepernick's supporters act like protesting is easy

Im not saying owners colluding against him would be okay, just saying protests will bring consequences
