Thank you for posting that. Explains a lot. OKC has moved closer to us and I shake my head that Presti gets to pull his "these aren't the droids you're looking for" business with so many GMs, but after their starting five, the Thunder are pretty darned thin. Good, yes, and they traded turds for a gold nugget and, well, some bauxite, but they aren't going to be better than us. And no way in hell should Morey have traded Ariza/Gordon for Melo. No way.
Kanter/McDermott is better than Ariza/Gordon. Both are crap offers for the Knicks. Gordon is useless for the Knicks because they are building around Hardaway and Ntilikina. Kanter's contract is a year shorter than Gordon's and there's a chance that he would opt out next summer(although unlikely).
lol at Kanter/McDermott being better than Ariza/Gordon OKC essentially gave up their version of Ryno in Kanter, their version of Troy Williams in McDermott, and a 2nd round pick for Melo
Kanter is younger, better and has a shorter contract. McDermott was a lottery pick and has more potential than Ariza.
Carmelo's PER 28 - 24.8 29 - 24.4 30 - 21.5 31 - 20.3 32 - 17.9 33 - ???? DWade PER 28 - 28.0 29 - 25.6 30 - 26.3 31 - 24.0 32 - 22.0 33 - 21.4 34 - 20.3 35 - 18.5 CP3 PER 28 - 25.9 29 - 26.0 30 - 26.2 31 - 26.2 One of these is not like the others... One is a difference maker. The other two are NOT difference makers, just memories of former glories.
Ariza is an expiring Kanter is basically useless for NY, he was just needed for salary matching purposes...he is almost guaranteed to pick up his PO and will take away minutes from Willy Hernangomez Gordon is on a good contract and can be traded for somebody better than McDermott who has little to no potential or something better than a high 2nd round pick...McDermott being a lottery pick means absolutely nothing because he's nothing more than a bench player at best OKC gave up nothing for Melo...they did not give up players as important as Ariza or Gordon from their rotation
McDermott is an expiring too. Kanter has a shorter contract and younger than Eric Gordon. According to your logic Gordon is useless for NY as well because he's going to take away minutes from Hardaway and Ntilikina. I absolutely agree OKC gave up nothing. That's why it sucks. And I've already explained many times why I think trading Gordon and Ariza for Melo would still be good for the Rockets.
Enes Kanter: 4.8 ppg and 1.8 rpg in the playoffs for 5 games, 9 mpg. Better than Eric Gordon? You have a lot to learn. Doug has played 183 games, almost 4000 minutes, 4 seasons, 26 years old. He does not have any more potential. He is Steve Novak, and his numbers reflect that. He has no ability outside of shooting the basketball, almost always off the bench because he can't move laterally. Trevor Ariza is light years more valuable.
Frank is not ready to play heavy minutes. There would be PLENTY of minutes for Eric Gordon, and he is still relatively young, cheap and would be a great fit on the new run and gun Knicks. TH can play the SF spot too.
The key is it is not declining every single year for multiple years, which is the point I was most obviously illustrating. PER by no means tells you who the better player is, but I shouldn't have to tell you that, or do I?
McDermott is expiring and will then become a RFA. If they don't re-sign him then he's basically another useless piece for them to go along with Kanter right? and no, according to my logic Gordon is not useless for NY...I clearly said that he could be traded for something useful because he's on a good contract, is a good player, and can help many teams...that does not apply to Kanter who does not have a good contract, is not useful for a playoff team because he can't be played in the playoffs, and is not useful for a bad team because they don't need him...even Ariza could be traded for something useful at the deadline like a low 1st round pick OKC gave up nothing, and that was determined to be the price that a good team was willing to give up for an aging Melo while not making the team worse overall...OKC offered nothing, Cleveland offered nothing, Houston offered nothing, and the Clippers offered nothing when they were on his list...Ariza and Gordon is not nothing Shouldn't it be clear to u what teams really think about Melo by now?
Kanter averaged 15 points in 21 minutes. He's one of the most efficient low post scorer in the league. Anyways, whether he's better than Gordon or not is not important because neither of them would be part of the Knicks' long term plan. But Kanter has a shorter contract. McDermott shot nearly 40% from three in his career, 5% better than Ariza. He's also 6 years younger than Ariza so it is completely sensible to say he has more potential. Again, whether he's better than Ariza or not is not important. Kanter's contract was the deal breaker.
Who plays NBA defense worse than I (6'2", white, almost 49 years old) would. "We can't play Kanter," said the OKC coach. Yes, Kanter's shorter deal was the deal breaker. Shorter than Anderson's. But we were not giving up Ariza and Gordon for Melo, nor should we have. WARNING: It's like arguing with a drunk. You will get carpal tunnel syndrome in this argument.
Agreed, I always thought only idiots would compare players by PER. I only mentioned it because you mentioned it. But wait, are you contradicting yourself?
you need to use PER with USAGE speaking of your hero, aside from chucking jumpers, what exactly does he bring to the table better than Ariza and Ego and at elite levels like harden and CP3?
I keep seeing people(homers) say Gordon is a better player than Melo now and Wade as well. Let's not forget Gordon was pretty much out of sight-out of mind before last season. We should be hoping Gordon has his 2nd consecutive healthy season for the first time in his career at 29 years old instead of telling everyone that he's better than Carmelo Anthony who just had his worst season but it was still better than Gordon's best.. I pretty much expect Gordon to miss 15-25 games this season....i also expect the same from CP3 and Ryno. I went from hopeful we could rival GS with Melo to bracing ourselves for a very shitty season with injuries or a 2nd round exit if healthy while we watch OKC make the WCF b/c star power in the playoffs wins. No ref is going to look at Eric Gordon as a star.
