So you are really going that route? You think that Kap's actions weren't motivated by the incident in his home town that was one of the biggest stories nationally at the time when he started his BS? LOL fair enough. I'll never underestimate your desire to spin.
He said it after his career in Major League Baseball was over and after he had stood for the anthem in every career game he played in. Muhammed Ali was a person who hated this country and made sure that everyone knew it. You clearly identify with that. I am sincerely sad for you.
I for one would not say to Ali's face in 1967 that he was a coward. I would pay money to see BtG say that to Ali. Clay v. United States His local draft board had rejected his application for conscientious objector classification. The Supreme Court found the government had failed to properly specify why Ali's application had been denied, thereby requiring the conviction to be overturned. A unanimous decision (8-0), "the court said the record shows that [Ali's] beliefs are founded on tenets of the Muslim religion as he understands them.
concerned? you want to compare the number of posts you and I have had in this thread? not concerned with this either because: 1) it hasn't been an issue. 2) we have judicial processes and laws to punish such events 3) Nobody is suggesting any legislation regarding the issue.
Stop embarrassing yourself with use of circular logic. Your statement "valid protests are seen as valid protests" is the easy, textbook example of circular reasoning. Your IQ...needs work, let's just put it that way. The components of a circular argument are often logically valid because if the premises are true, the conclusion must be true. Circular reasoning is not a formal logical fallacy but a pragmatic defect in an argument whereby the premises are just as much in need of proof or evidence as the conclusion, and as a consequence the argument fails to persuade.
to answer your question, the Supreme Court had a ruling on that same question...please read West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette
From the Houston Chronicle: 50 years ago this week Muhammad Ali refused the draft in Houston Ali went before military induction officials inside Houston's Military Entrance Processing Station building off San Jacinto and refused to step forward for induction when his name was called. He was later arrested. This came after Ali had made three separate appeals to have his draft status changed because of what he called his non-violent Muslim faith and membership in the Nation of Islam. Ali's boxing career spiraled out of control after his arrest, with the New York State Athletic Commission suspending his boxing license and the World Boxing Association stripping him of his world heavyweight title. This banned him from boxing in the United States. His "Non-violent Muslim Faith". Really now. And of course we all know what a non-violent person Ali himself was. Ali hated this country and he hated white people, which of course makes him a racist. Here is Ali in his own words at the time: Ali was a self promoting anti-American racist piece of $%!&. I have to say I am a bit surprised to see even the Democrat left wanting to continue to double down on this particular theme. Nothing good is going to come out of this for you guys and very possibly just the opposite.
Ali later in life apologized for a lot of his young stupid behavior involving Nation of Islam iirc. Im all for forgiving young stupid mistakes.
Tyrants would SEEK to suppress... How many times now has Trump sought to have someone fired for their speech?
The problem is that we all cannot come to a consensus on the mechanisms based on the politics. We on the left scream "yeah!" when a Rush Limbaugh boycott is arranged, but yell "boo" when others want to boycott the NFL. And that is definitely vice-versa. The right thinks it is horrible to boycott a baker who refuses to bake a cake for a gay couple based on their religious beliefs, but have no problem wanting Abdul-Rauf out of the league for expressing his. I say, take the national anthem out of sports and we'd all be better off. All of this has come about due to the culture wars- it has nothing to do with Obama and Trump, but everything to do with a movement that continues to grow- more people of color, and alternate lifestyles, in the U.S. Obama just brought it into the spotlight and emboldened more African-American citizens to take a stand (simply by being black), while Trump is emboldening more black / Hispanic / gay people to take a stand due to his rhetoric.
Yeah, he kinda was which made sense at the time. Which makes me wonder why so many conservatives are so fond of him and other Civil Rights Activist at the time.
Zero. Can't think of any law he's suggested or tried to pass that suppresses speech. which law are you thinking of?
Are you saying someone has to be an anti-American racist piece of $%!& to be a civil rights advocate? I don't believe that is right. I certainly do not believe that about Martin Luther King, who is someone whose civil rights work that I admire. But that is certainly what Muhammad Ali promoted himself as.
