New unprecedented accomplishment: making Terry Bradshaw seem smart.

I wonder do these black players know that they're being used like wet rags? The sad part about this whole mess is: when they realized the fans are leaving the game in droves, playing in front of empty stadium is no fun, endorsements are dried up, owners will finally fire them. I'd bet you these clueless ingrates will regret the antics they pulled while stocking the super market shelves or flipping those burgers( if they can even get or qualify for those jobs). To be young and stupid!

Do you post just to elicit a triggered reaction?

That's what kids who worship Twitch celebrities who struggle in high school do.

It's a good theory. Part of the problem is.. there is always something horrible going on with trump. If this is his tactic, which may very well be, he would need to constantly create diversion... wait, he has been.

Have they released yesterday's ratings? I'm curious to see if there was a noticeable change. I'm doubting it.

Some people confuse the two too easily. Hey, I don't like the kneeling and Trump is against it too so it's great. What they clearly fail to see is the very thing they supposedly are for (the flag) is Trump doesn't give a rat about the flag. I'm sure the flag stands for private citizen right to peaceful free speech and the blood shed by many to protect those and many other rights, both of which Trump directly sh*ted all over. If the flag is your thing, you would be much more concern about Trump here than a football player. Of course, there are some that don't give a rat about the flag either, but love Trump signaling.

Look, you can't have it both way. If you are so for the flag, you would be criticizing Trump much more than the kneeling.

As for the reaction toward Trump's action here --- it's necessary, even if unproductive. If you just ignored it, you are saying it's perfectly fine to not care about a basic right. That's more dangerous.

People have life long commitments to these teams. They followed them as children. It's ingrained within their blood.

Most here are die hard Rocket fans. Conservative posters here who think this will negatively effect ratings should ask themselves what it would take from the Rockets organization to stop following the team.

    That's how I feel.

While there may be some trump fans that did turn off the game... I don't think it'd be very many people. I'd guess that number would be negated by those that just tuned in to see the anarchy like me.

If the Rockets start doing this before games, I will very certainly stop watching or attending the games.

If Donald Trump was the owner of the Rockets I still would follow them. The Rockets hold a rather dear spot in my heart as a fan since being 5 years old

    Me too.

But we need to have some sense of our priorities here. Loyalty to our country, respect for our flag and our national anthem has to take precedence over the accustomed enjoyment of a sports entertainment spectacle. If when the second openly and intentionally conflicts with the first, then it is time to let it go.

I know some people really hate our country and what it has traditionally accomplished and stood for.

Patriotism vs sports entertainment and the race card. If you value the second over the first, something is seriously wrong with you.

I understand what you are saying, but respectfully I might have to disagree. I think normally its the media that falls for his traps all the time, but in this case I think the players, owners, etc. that made a statement (verbal or non-verbal) against Trump did the right thing regardless of the fact that Trump was going to strengthen his base this weekend regardless. Trump even had to walk it back with his "Oh .... SOLIDARITY is great" statement which was hilarious.... .they are in solidarity against you dumba$$.

IMO its more powerful coming from athletes than it would be from so-called "lefties". IMO nobody in this country holds more power to stand against Trump than famous athletes. Far more impactful than politicians or actors because most of them are just more universally respected by both sides in this country, and it will test conservative fans more as they were rooting from them in other ways from the start if they were on their team, their fantasy league etc.

Trump surely wanted more black athletes to kneel yesterday to say I told you so to his base..... but he couldn't have wanted even Trump donors like Robert Kraft to have to come out and speak against him publicly. That couldn't have been part of the plan. He was surely hoping for a Richard Sherman or Odell Beckham to go off on him, and kneel but he couldn't have been planning for his rich white donors to have to publicly speak against him.

Either way though, it was going to play to his base. I think the best that could have happened with the situation happened regardless if you agree or disagree with kneeling

*(I personally stand, but I understand why the statement needs to be made right now in this point in time..... hopefully we all can agree its time to stand at some point in the near future)

Me too, but I think the fans, and the players (like with Sterling and the Clippers) would ultimately make statements that pretty clearly stand against him publicly if he was saying the things he says as a politician, or if he carried his race baiting to the sidelines.

However as owner of the Rockets, you'd see a different but same Donald Trump. The guy is a sleazy used car salesman and will say whatever to sell to his "base". I'm 100% positive he'd do nothing but trash Cuban and Popavich nonstop and the fans would love it just like his fans love him now when he trash talks anyone and anything that isn't team white grievance.

One things for sure though.... Chandler Parsons would have gotten that Max contract from Trump.

No one was disrespecting the flag. These people don't hate the country. The country also stands for free speech.

The person that was most disloyal was Trump when he decided to attack the players for daring to peacefully protest.

au contrare, Drumph's latest effort to distract from his lack of accomplishments as POTUS has back-fired.

    fact is

Drumph called for the NFL owners to fired player who kneel to the flag

30 out of 32 the owners promtly gave him a resounding FU

as a group, during this past election cycle, the NFL owners contributed > $8 Million to Drumph's and RNC campaigns,
    and < $0.8 M to Dems.
Drumph's most ardent / well-known supporters, Patriot owner Robert Craft and his QB Tom Brady, have expressed their disappointment w the POTUS's divisiveness

They were disrespecting our flag, our anthem and our country. And as you know very well, it was their intent and focused purpose to do so.

yes, lets talk about priorities here for a second.

is it worse for a professional athlete to kneel during the national anthem as a protest against racial injustice in this country or for the president of the united states to say the POW's are not heroic because they were captured?

    where are your priorities "mojoman"?

does donald trump show love or "hate for our country and what it has traditionally accomplished and stood for" when he denigrates POW's or when asked a question about Russia and it's murderous regimes says "you think we are so innocent"?

if you think that taking a knee is more damaging than the president saying the things he has said than i would argue that there is something "seriously wrong with you".
